I didn't take those stills - there's some guy who has a site
telling the entire story of "Alien" in stills like that..!

very handy if you decide to do an avatar series about the
Alien films..

They should've filmed Scott's original ending. I would have
paid to see that.

I don't like that ending.

not because it's too bleak, but more because it's kind of
stupid - makes the alien much more intelligent than is
believable, I think.

It's premiering at midnight at this local theater on
Halloween. I'll be there.

They also showed Akira a couple nights ago, which was really
nice to see on the silver screen. Good sound system, too.

i dont know, the alien's must be pretty inteligent
considering they have space travel

its out friday in the uk, can't wait to see it.

One of my friends has never seen it, only the shitty
sequels, he's in for a surprise :)

I bet it would be amazing to see it at the cinema for the
first time.

offline Jarworski from The Grove (United Kingdom) on 2003-10-27 08:58 [#00920461]
Points: 10836 Status: Lurker

The original ending had the alien biting Ripley's head off,
then radioing back to Earth using her voice. Weird.

And the aliens don't have space travel, the ship Dallas goes
on belongs to another race, hence the big thing in the gun.

oh right, so they just inhabit the planet. I always thought
it was the alien's ship. How cool is that big gun scene...
amazing how they managed to do what they did in that film
ever 20 years ago.

Aside from some pacing issues and rather naff dialogue I
think this film has stood up brilliantly. Mostly it's hardly
dated at all. I have absolutely no interest in going to see
a slightly different version in the cinema though.

i prefer seeing films on a big screen with a good sound
system, and i've never seen this at the cinema before.

naaaaaah!! the space jockey (or navigator) is what they call
the big thing in the chair - so it isn't a 'big gun' but
some kind of navigation console.

they probably were transporting alien eggs for some reason
(some people think because the aliens would be designed, a
kind of biological weaponry, which I think is rather a
boring idea) - hence "the layer of mist" covering the eggs,
which gives off a kind of warning signal when broken by Kane
upon his descent.
underway something went wrong and the ship crashed on
LV-426, the ship sending out a distress beacon warning other
ships not to come close.

fun fact about the space jockey scene - that set wasn't
really that big. Ridley Scott had small spacesuits designed
which were worn by his own children in that scene, making it
all look huge. :)

have been better!

I have that one too, yep..

but really, this thing is CRAMMED full of stuff.. for one
thing, they speak to all the actors, which I just love.
there's a new commentarytrack for the old "Alien", with not
only Scott this time, but also the writers, Sigourney
Weaver, Tom Skerrit, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton
and John Hurt.

that alone makes me cream my pants. let alone all the
commentary tracks on the other three films.. let alone all
the extra documentaries...

gaaAAAhhh...
