is it supposed to be noticeably different from the
original?

ie, new ending or something?

previously cut scenes have been added (most famously the
cocoon scene, which is also on the dvd).

it has been cleaned up, new soundeffects added.

Scott has trimmed the scenes (think micromanagement here -
he cut out people entering and leaving rooms, for example),
to make the whole thing a bit tighter.

and it will be on A BIG FUCKING SCREEN WITH SOUND ALL AROUND
YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jerry Goldsmith.

well, I could still get it from the dvd, seeing as you can
watch the film with just the score. but I'd rather have a
nice remastered version ofcourse! :)

I'll keep my eyes open and let you know..

niiiice!

i still don't have the DVD series, i'm waiting for a GOOD
price and then i'll get it!

just saw the scene with the Alien busting through the guys
head on the ship.....but i have to turn it off now.....cos i
don't like that Ripley killed her 'baby' at the end of this
film. i felt SOWWIE for the wee alien, eventhough he was a
killah. Alien Resurrection failed at the end.....IMO. =/

I wasnt a fan of Alien Resuurection... beggining or end.

And now theres the alien vs. predator... uhg. its just like
hollywood is like "ok, uh, we need a shure shot... lets make
a sequal to... hmmm aliens was good, lets go with that"

bah

Aliens 1-3 will be the only alien movies in my eyes

it fails, much, MUCH earlier before that.

as far as I see, it falls outside of the series almost
stylistically, on the level of the screenplay itself.

I see at as follows:

alien = story about people like you and me encountering a
killing machine locked into a small space, therefore
terrifying (in a way) because of easy identification.

aliens = a story about heroes, trying to overcome hardship
etc.

alien 3 = a story that tries to return to the "regular joe"
premisse of the first film and hangs heavily on dark
visuals, although the story now comes out quite repetitive
and therefore boring.

alien 4 = comic book version of the alien story. and thats
where it fails, I believe. I just don't buy it. I don't care
about the characters (although the idea of Ripley becoming
dangerous and unpredictable is pretty good, I think). to me
the huge amounts of gore in this part are part of the comic
book approach - I really dislike all the splatter in
ressurection.

I mean, stuff like the chestburster bursting through the
scientist's head is just silly.

I don't want silliness in Alien!!!

i've always thought of the first film as a definite horror
movie, the second and third as action, and the fourth one as
a bit crap, really.

well, I would see 1 more as a thriller, as the gore is there
but always really brief (um.. except the chestbursting scene
ofcourse.. goodness!!).

2 is a quintessential action flick, yes - that's why we have
Real Heroes to root for.

the third one is too slow to be a real action flick, I
think. it's kind of muddled really.

hehhe..........hey that wasn't too bad!!

but you're right.....ALIEN was brilliant because of the
claustrophobia aspect as well......it's like limited people,
limited space.....and eventually it's gonna get you cos you
don't have anywhere to RUN!!

i liked Aliens because some of the characters were funny as
shit! i loved that ball busting latina chick who kicked ass
and took names! can't explain why tho....;o)

Alien 3 worked for me ONLY during the first part of the
movie when the brilliant actor Charles Dance occupied the
screen with Ripley.....after his TOO EARLY demise it was
pretty 'by the book'

Alien Res - Loved the fact that Ripley was as deadly as the
aliens, liked only a FEW of the supporting characters, and
some of the underwater scenese were good, but overall it was
a complete departure from the ORIGINAL concept.

and feeling SORRY for the Alien at the end is NOT what the
director wanted i'm sure.....

yeah, i guess thriller is more accurate.
to be honest i haven't watched the third in years and i
didn't find it particularly memorable.

one of my favourite parts of aliens was bishop's white
"blood".
simple, but totally awesome nonetheless.

Ash already has white blood in "Alien".

which works as a great contrast with all the redness that
the burst Kane offers up earlier in the film..

Ridley Scott does say something about this on the
(excellent!) commentary track on the dvd..

he sees it as Ash trying to rape Ripley, but being a robot,
not exactly knowing how it all.. um.. works..
