what bullshit.

don't confuse focussing developing texture of sound with
"making things unlistenable".

I hate it when people say things like that as if they are
fact - you don't like it, it ends there.

o.k.?

anything anyone expresses about music prefrences is just an
opinion

hmm, richard devine could become something...that is if he'd
release stuff that he's playing live

Granted, noise could be considered a texture of sound, but I
personally think that music has to have some sort of melody
or progression to be listenable - there's a fine threshold
between noise and music, and some artists (I feel) haven't
mastered that balance. Others throw in noise for the sake of
doing it.

"there's a fine threshold

i suppose you should go into the plugin market if you've
learnt how to immeadiatly tell the difference MATE.

i can think of at least 3 people on this message board that
could easily be the new aphex, not because they sound like
him or mimic his music, but because they are so damn
original and have created many a great track so far

I find confield and draft 7.30 highly melodic and warm... I
love them to hear again and again

my favourite autechre era... and for me the most melodic

hey joyrex (it's haendell66), i don't share at all your
views on music , but, i underdstand it: what do you think of
cylobotnia?

i hated it at first, for all the reason you gave on confield
or latest >[] 'too much complex bits', not enough warm
melodies ; but after a while, i'm loving it too death for
the same reasons (fucking complex, hidden melodies, sounds
that explode your head)...

're bored with elctronic music, get victor gama cd's on
rphlex: it's brillant & fresh

i think anybody could be the new afx in electronic music. we
have and we will have tons of good musicians but Richard D.
James remain the myth.

anyway: i think Ovuca and Chris Clark could the be a good
hope for the future.

I think Warp has done a good job signing Brothomstates and
Chris Clarck. I expect much from them in the future. I'm
also hoping for a new Sote-release

ALL KNEEL BEFORE HIM!!!!!

bogdan is cool because you at least feel that his music
comes from the heart.

if anyone has been as amazing as afx recently its got to be
vsnares. i would have said s.pusher but his last album pales
in comparison to past efforts.

people say "making something unlistenable" as if its bad...
anyone can make warm melodies, and warm synths blah blah
boards of canada verypleasant andrural but not very
exciting...
which leads on to my point that smojphace kicks ass. so
maybe its not the most original blast of white noise ever
but it makes a fucking change from melody.

as well as vsnares. winter... was far more invigorating and
incredible than fucking geogaddi.

Yes, I Chris Clark has places to go.

But you're all forgetting someone (besides qrter, whose
schoolreis is rocking MY ASS RIGHT NOW) and their name
is...

Ulrich Schnauss.

Cylobotnia is a mixed bag... I haven't had a proper listen
yet, but from what I heard of the samples it seems they
wanted to try out a bit of everything. No track really
stands out for me yet, but then again, they're just
samples.

Chris Clark and Brothomstates both are very innovative and
are very good at marrying chaos and melody together well.

The Victor Gama stuff is not new (rephlex is re-releasing
it), but I agree it's nice and innovative.

who was the new Elvis Presley?
who were the new Beatles?
we will never have another Aphex Twin in electronica I
suppose.

what do you mean by "a new aphex"? someone whose music
sounds like aphex's music? or someone who steps into new
uncharted musical teritories, people with their own
style? if we're talking about the second kind (which i hope
we are), then we need not worry - there will always be such.
and if you don't think there's anyone as creative and
innovative you'd like to hear then you may be the one. just
get to work.

Woofy has a good point; there probably will never be another
'aphex' because the scene has changed, and events like the
ones that rose Richard to his stature now won't ever
probably happen again.

yes, and his name is jean michael jarre.

whoops, thought it was 1977.
in that case, nope, electronic music is dead.

i love confield but what the heck is warm or melodic about
it? and no i'm not one of those people who say there're no
melodies or it's all noise; i hear subtle melodic motifs,
but melody isn't the point of this album or even largely
featured like on previous albums.

chris clark is too much of an aphex imitator to truly be
"the next aphex" unless that's what you consider the
requirements of that to be. he's cool but not very original.
ovuca is cool too but just not in the same league of talent
or creativity. he's far more than just "adequate" but i
don't see him changing the game like some of those warp cats
did.

chris clark is nowhere near aphex, his music is just way too
predictable, not much imagination, he's sticking to forms
way too much, and it is quite boring and cheesy...yeah, im
not his biggest fan

i find that chris clark as an own style, good rhythms and
melodies.
obviously he will not be the new aphex twin but he could be
a very good electronic musician for the future

Ovuca/Astrobotnia is one of my new fav's and he's got one
thing in common with afx; about, i don't know, 50%, or more,
of his stuff is total crap but the rest is brilliant.

Guess you know what i'm talking about, i don't know, maybe
it's just me.

I'd have said Clarence Park was a bit too Aphex in style,
but I think with Ceramics and Empty he has developed his own
style. Particularly with Empty, that shit it really good
and sounds nothing like Aphex's work. Personally I think he
is the current best of the newer crop of electronic artists.
