You know what I don't think that I am wrong and I really don't find it necessary for you to address me like that. I also find that many of the people on here are cynical piss ants with a really bad attitude, and many of those same people freely admit to smoking pot and/or doing other drugs. Maybe this genre and other related genres would get more respect as real art and not written off as drug schloc if so many of the artists and fans alike layed off the drugs and then proceeded to take the stick out of their arse. So no I don't believe I am wrong at all and why don't you proceed treating your neighbor as you would want to be treated. Do you talk to me like that just because we are on the internet miles apart, or do you generally address someone you don't know like that to their face? |

i dont see what the problem with this thread is its a perfectly legit question... many musicians smoke, and many listeners do too... and alot of musicians are very opinionated on smoking or not, when writting. Id be interested to know weather or not AE smoke. Personally, I smoke... but I dont write tracks while high. Like someone said before... you sit there tweaking the same loop for 3 hours... only slightly... and it sounds like crap when sober. Personally, I like to have complete control over my music, and know that it was 100% thought out... and not something I came up with while in a daze. But thats just me. My friend writes while high, and he writes wihile sober too. He just likes both for different reasons. So yeah... to each their own. And I still dont understand why this thread is bad? |

The thread is stupid because how does anyone here know whether Sean and Rob smoke weed or not? And what does it matter if they do or not? And given that noone could possibly answer the original question what is the point in asking whether their music suffers as a result? |

i think that people don't like to associate AE with drugs. IE, you're into a certian fetish, and find out all of the fans fit a certian "mold," and you're disgusted for likeing it, and disgusted towards yourself. i think it's pretty hippocritical...don't you have to be a bit "uncanny" to even dig IDM in the first place? why are uncanny people putting down other forms of "extraordinary?" |

I'm not attacking drugs, I love drugs and I love drug users. I love you. In my opinion (should I ALWAYS have to add that after a post, isn't it just understood?), drugs almost never have a positive effect on music. For all the talk of how ''druggy'' The Beatles eventually got, absolutely NONE of their songs are drug influenced or DONE under the influence, except as in jokes. Paul said they recorded some TRUE drugs songs, and then wiped the tape the next day when they realized how awful they were. They weren't tripping when they wrote Lucy in the Sky, and Autechre weren't tripping when they made Confield. If they did, the album would suffer for it. That's how I feel. End of story. Of course I could be wrong, but I'd be very surprised. This is total speculation, I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong if Booth and Brown said otherwise. All I can do is hyphothesize based on what I know. I'm not talking about LISTENING to music. If you see God when you're tripping listening to SAW2, more power to you. I'm sure you do, and that's fantastic. But most GREAT music that's attributed to ''drugs'' is made by sober minds. And tough shit if you don't like the way we do things here. |
