as i've said before it wasn't all noise... only about a third of his set was noise, most of the stuff before that was accessible to the majority of bjork fans.

was it a sitting down concert?
i disagree. i think richard should exactly what he wants to play. he probably knew that the audience would judge him. little do they know that when he wants to he can play more beautiful, emotional music than bjork could ever hope to. their loss for writing him off without investigating his huge diversity of work.

I see what you are saying to Titsworth and i partly agree. However if Napalm Death cant stop playing metal Aphex cant help trying to shock his listeners/fans .
Hes like an evil little Andy Kaufman hiding behind his Laptop gigeling , its his whole persona and image.
But maybe we shouldn't speculate to much , im sure the full backround on this gig will show up in an interview or something.Journalists love this kind of stuff.

You're also much better at arguing than me (thats a compliment..) but y'know, without idealism, where go the ideas? ... i'm probably much younger than you too.
also, theres a fine line between being snobbish and being 'cheeky' i think..

i didn't mean to dis' bjork. i'm sure she's done some very beautiful music.
what gets me is that these fans didn't say "i didn't like the supporting act" or something similar, they basically said it was utter shite. that is narrow minded.

ah that's funny, what a cock! I think he must have been having an absolute laugh making a miserable time for the bjork fans
hating 2 hours of feedback isn't being 'narrow minded'
I doubt he's made many friends, but then he's never needed them has he, since aphex fans would listen to an album of him growing a container of marigolds

that is absolutely awesome. i think he has every right to play whatever the hell he wants to play. he shouldn't have to cater his set to fit the tastes of bjork fans.
i was also under the impression, being a fan of bjork myself, that most of her fans had some appreciation for the type of music he was playing. i doubt it was entirely "noise", but if it was hardcore chaos and jarring noise, more power to him. fits with his persona he seems to have created, and to me thats hilarious.

i dont give a good god damn if he has the right to play whatever he wants or not, or whatever. just that it's kind of a stupid thing to do. but that's aphex. when i saw pat metheny trio in concert, he played his regular jazz standards, and so on, but broke out into a noise piece for twenty minutes, and went on. were he to come out and play the whole show as noise, i would have walked out, even though he is my favorite artist in every sense of the word. just because someone comes out and performs that way, doesnt make that person a genius. my two cents.

but its wicked~ This isn't crap noise, such as cellphones and loud voices.
God, if you REEEEEALLY want to go there, its already classified as a 'genre'. So any new music lover shouldn't boo... come on.....

but the dj'ing was dodgyy i read somewhere, maybe afx was all pissed in fact, anyway i think he wanted to test tracks macking people angry with them, results : A+ !!!

It is funny....Aphex is actually not much further away from being a Christina Aguilera or a one-man-Backstreet Boy right now...he can pretty much put out plain shit for the rest of his lives and know that there are rabid fans out there that will buy it and hail it to the skies...There is not a way in hell some people will ever call a trashy Aphex song to his face. Not anymore atleast. And he knows that.
Yes. The man is a genius. Yes. He has more musical talent in his pinky than many others do in through their whole being. But for all that, he is also got a demented mad side...and for what it is worth, he exercises it just as often as his musical side. He can, and in the past has, made music that is far superior to much else that has been created...but sometimes, he just takes the piss. What can you say about a guy that puts sandpaper to a turntable and amplifies a blender for samples?
He is crazy. And a genius. But maybe a bigger genius because more often that not, no one knows if he is being crazy or a genius.

im one of those ppl that would buy anything by him...if i wouldnt like it i wouldnt listen to it...but still i would buy it!

Yes, infact that is what I think. The fact is that he is THE first techno 'superstar'. But the way he became that is by total dedication to his craft. And now he is at that point where he can hang up his gig, and call it a day. The very fact that he has not means that he is an intensly creative person whose music comes from a place that is real. He is not a Christina or a N'Sync because he panders to his audience...but because he is his own man and does his own thing.
All I am saying is that, whatever the reason, and however honorable your road to getting to be superstar, once you get there... it is a dangerous place to be, because it could lead to complacency. And don't get me wong, I love that Mr.James as much as the other guy... he is a lovable rascal.

same here, i collect his stuff for the sake of it, but imagine this;
what if he released somethin' like: 'selected silence works', and it would contain a blank cd in a jewelcase with a sticker which said it was by aphex twin, or he released 'monotone bubblebath' and it would contain only one tone throughout the whole cd.. or something like 'high frequency works' with sounds that are not in the range of frequencies which humans can hear
it would be beyond stupid to spend money on stuff like that, but still i think i might just buy it (which makes me an idiot i know.. but hey, he would be an idiot too 'cause he released stuff like that).. i guess
of course it'll never happen (well.. with him you never know) but i think about things like this often

Well, he has already released 'high frequency sounds' as a part of a single. What is to stop him from releasing more?
And the blank composition wouldn' be a new idea. John Cage already did that in 4:33, although his intent was completely different.

i seen the fucker 6 times now, live and along with his braindance crew, Mike dredd, Cylob and Squarepusher fucking NOBODY can touch his musical genious DJÃng or live. I´m an absolute regular concert goer... jazz, gospel, rock, techno, house etc and EVERYTHING is fucking shit boring compared to one of RDJ´s shows. He just does things with melodies, beats and noise that is beyond comprehension to me. Check out the Sonar gig... the noise part. You just know he spends time at hoemwith an idea nobody has done, trashes it out and works on it and then gives it t us live. He loves music and loves mashing it up, unbound my rules etc. Bring it on. Roll on Sonar 2003!

i think this review on the bjork site was a bit harsh:
"I have all of the Aphex Twin's albums, including the recent awful double one. I listen to a diverse range of music, some of it 'difficult', 'challenging', 'noisy'. Frankly, I was totally bored by the Twit's lack of performance. The most excited I got was in wondering how he could be fiddling around so much to produce so little effect. At first it sounded random, uninspired and tedious. Towards the end it sounded contrived, uninspired and tedious. When the audience expressed their displeasure (and why shouldn't they? They paid to see Björk!) he and his friend waved their fists at us. Showing total contempt for your audience will win nobody over. I made it to the gig despite feeling exhausted from having an evil chest infection. I don't drink, so the prospect of sitting bored in the bar was only mildly more enticing than watching AFX man make a complete tit of himself. Frankly, the Aphex Acid went stale sometime after 1996."
