'turtle heart' could refer to the fact that we tend to retreat into our shells when hurt..., like a turtle. And the song is about healing such a hurt person...

vespertine covers a broad range of emotion making the whole movement very 'real' in that real life is never simply ecstatic or great, but the over all experience for me is one of bliss.

Thats true. Debut is awfully simple. Post is harder, but still ok. Homogenic is abstract and surreal beyond words. Vespertine has all but sublimated meaning. With verspertine all yuou have are smoke rings and wisps of ideas. Listening to it is like walking through a cloud.

madur levendir (maður lifandi spelled correctly) = my god ...literal translation is = man alive
i can't make out the words in immature after she sings "how extremely lazy of me" ...i don't think it's icelandic, maybe mixture of icelandic and english. in the last part she might be saying "and bÃður eftir love" = and waits for love, but i could be wrong

there's a big book out with interpretations of all of her songs up through vespertine.. a lot of them from bjork herself.. i think, maybe not..
i'll see if i can find it again..
but anyways.. i've always thought 'an echo, a stain' was sort of a creepy infatuation/love song.. kinda like 'i miss you' but more ominous.. the "sorry you saw that / sorry he did it/ an echo/ a stain" part makes me think of some infidelity possibly?
as for "the fountain of blood"... notice in the book let she puts "my love" in parenthesis.. i think she uses blood as a symbol of passion or energy or life.. i remember she said of "its in our hands": "It was nice to do a full-blooded song after doing a whole album that didn't have any blood in it, though that was the point with Vespertine, that it was see-through like a crystal."
bjork has an odd lyrical sense.. like a weird combination of naivete and sophistication.. just in interviews, she describes things in awkward ways, though, the fact that her mind operates in such a different way shouldnt be much of a surprise..

i know exactly what you mean. anyone who's ever really listened to her probably does. but naivete suggests foolishness, not knowing any better. i tend to think she is fully conscious and this quality of her is more innocence than naivete. she's a playful spirit, even in her most 'serious' lyrical moments. she's a poet!
tits, clouded on echo a stain, perfect!

i thought fountain of blood shaped as a girl was a reference to menstruation. i agree that the album is very sexual. many references to ejaculation ("a train of pearls") and the like.
He slides inside Half awake, half asleep We faint back Into sleephood When I wake up The second time In his arms Gorgeousness He's still inside me
the sexual reference seems pretty obvious here too. "when i wake up the second time" is a reference to multiple orgasms.
and: In the sleeping curves of my body Shall enter fingers Of smooth mastery With chasteness of sea-girls Will I complete the mystery Of my flesh Will I complete the mystery Of my flesh My flesh
is probably a reference to achieving orgasm by masturbation.

i'm really wondering what the parts she sing in icelandic (or any other language) mean... they're recurrent in many of their songs btw... something sounding a bit like "angina chtaael" (??)... or "huta! huta!" in headphones (but this one only appears one)...
