oops sorry about that last post..... dunno what happened. ok
let's try this again:

Author: Mike P
Date: 04-14-03 22:21
the version on slsk that i've heard is fake.. only asking
journalists to hold back 'til the release date, if not...
who cares, not me. tossers.

offline virginpusher from County Clare on 2003-04-15 10:33 [#00651625]
Points: 27325 Status: Lurker

My problem is it was sent to 50 journalists. That's all so
far. each one with a note from me saying please do not put
on slsk(or wherever) until the release date (2nd June in
UK), so it's not what they did, it's that they (he/she)
deliberately went against what I personally asked them to
(not) do. So it's personal.

of course he cares, that's his bread and butter (he's one of
the biggest acts on his own label, so of course early
downloading is cutting into his future sales) and probably
his blood sweat and tears (it's been a few years since a
mu-ziq album was released, he probably put a lot of work
into this only for it to be put online either in poor
quality (like autechre, radiohead, white stripes releases)
or as fakes (also like autechre)).

that said, in 2003 i can't believe he'd be so naive to think
his album wouldn't end up online as soon as he sent the
promos out. 1998 or 1999 ok, but 2003, for a record label
owner? it's just surprising he would trust journalists that
much.

its a good point though.
i don't understand why more of these producers don't just
release crap copies or fakes of these albums. at some
point, it gets too difficult to sort through all the crappy
ones out there and buying the thing becomes a much easier
solution.

i must have downloaded 'twoism' 3 or four times and every
time it had this annoying popping sound through the whole
thing.

and when i downloaded draft 7.30 it had some crappy hissing
in the background.
or the tracks were fakes. i finally just gave up and bought
it.

on the other hand,
why oh why didn't i just download FSOL's Isness? what a
waste of money that was.

You've probably never used Kazaa, have you?

You can hire out companies to release fakes for you en
masse, and lots of the larger record companies already do
this.

i know a lot of people who have judged artists based on fake
mp3's (aphex, radiohead, nin especially) so it's not THAT
good of an idea in the long run. fake files spread really
rapidly; some fans refuse to believe it's a hoax mp3 and new
listeners refuse to give the artist a second chance after
hearing the brilliant masterpiece that is "the tetris
remix."

i didnt really like µ-ziq, but i think thats a bad new for
electronic music...

but now i realize that mike p dont care much about his fans,
cause he decides to leave them without his music only
because some stupid journalists put his music into the
net... thank you, mike!

i only use kazaa for software and porn

titsworth. the fact that the files spread rapidly is why
this is a good idea. if the dummies refuse to believe that
the files are fake, even after the album release, then they
probably weren't that serious of fans anyway.

you'd be surprised. not all fans of the MUSIC (read: not the
MUSICIANS) read the internet all the time. you can't fault
them for being rabid about the music but not the little odds
and ends about the musician. rare and unreleased tracks
appear online sometimes, unless you make a point to find out
if it's real or not then it's hard to tell. i still think
the rapid spread of fake files would do more harm than good
for an artist's reputation.

they don't even necessarily have to song files.
when that nirvana thing came out last year with the new
nirvana track on it, a lot of the files floating around were
just a buzzing noise or silence for the length of the track.

or like i said before, I tried repeatedly to get a copy of
Twoism without that annoying clicking-popping sound, but to
no avail. had to buy it. bought it. it comes with a neat
sticker! downloaded files don't come with neat stickers!

which brings up another point:
artists should give you more reasons to buy the stuff i.e.
stickers, limited edition fancy packaging, picture vinyl,
coins... yadda yadda...

Mike P is without doubt one of the most legendary electronic
music figures of all time alongside Aphex. He has a real
knack for creating big tunes with massive feel good factor.
I'm not sure about his latest release from what I've heard
on the Planet Mu site, but I'd have to hear it more I'm
sure. But all I can say, is I hope in hell that he doesn't
go down the same route as Reload did. A group with massive
potential and great tunes which just dissapeared into
oblivion without a bye your leave.

I personally believe its in Mike's best interest to keep
releasing music afterall its been 3 years and not only that
but the constant profile props up his older releases.
Stopping releases is a mistake in my view, but of course its
his calculation and we have to respect that. I'm still
looking forward to the day that Mike P smashes the charts
with a number single. His music warrants it for sure. :-)

my solution would be to send out a slightly different promo

or you could just not send anything at all.

no not 50 completely different versions! maybe just put a
little blip noise or something at a certain mark on each
version. just the smallest change that only the creator

taken from planet-mu index

"2nd of June is my album "Bilious Paths" (ZIQ070) - it's on
soulseek already apparently so that's my last under the name
µ-Ziq then. But it was a stupid name. 2LP also - quality
cut by Guy at the Exchange (of Max Tundra fame). This album
is more dancey than Royal Astronomy... I will let someone
else describe it: d/l from slsk and post a review on the
messageboard please. Like that one on watmm (admittedly done
from the clips) Review: Total Shit."

i;m friends with Dykehouse who is signed to planet-mu who
says Mr. Paradinas is a quiet guy who doesn't like to leave

whatever
um....

So does this mean he'll stop releasing albums of all artist
all together as shit leaks on a regular basis? It sucks
that artists need money to survive. But I manage to write
an album or two every year and I work overtime....

Damn maybe I should finally get access to those 4 CD's of

i actually couldn't imagine hearing the mr. lif album
without the promobot... so i'd have to say that el-p's
method isn't that effective... unless they had a really
obnoxious promo-bot-type-thing

the def jux promo bots ("for shizzle...") are SO obnoxious.
for me it really does make me want to hear it without.
ironically, i haven't bought any def jux outside of el-p
(and soon cannibal ox and mr. lif) cos most of it isn't very
good really.

so i think it's effective for some people, but others (like
yourself) can live with it.

Because I love my fans I have decided to release the album
(I was joking about the aborting it thing of course). That's
not all, I'm just remastering it at 24bit 96K so it sounds
smoother. That's the UK version, the US version will be
manufactured from the 16bit 48K master... I can't hear the
difference on my speakers.. perhaps you lot may. It's up if
any of you want to check it out, you don't have to buy it if
it's shit (in your opinion). But remember how some albums
take a while to grow... this one is a grower.. it has
staying power. I'm not sick of it yet and i've been
listening to some of the tracks for 3 years"
