drugs aren't for everyone. and everyone is affected
differently by them. the only universal thing about drug
use is that if you are irresponsible with drugs you are
likely to get hurt.
know your limits and only do what you feel you can handle.
make your own decisions and bring a buddy you trust and you
will probably do alright.

have a problem.

dont abuse... appreciate.

haha
kubrick sure is opinionated. he has his opinions on "things
that are really interesting and stimulating", and he has his
opinions on what "the most stimulating areas
of life" are.
in short, the quote is a huge pile of subjective crap, sorry
to say.

well i guess it's not really crap, just an opinion. it makes
him sound ignorant, though.

I'm not sure, it is simply what he determined from observing
and communicating with those people he knew, so if after
communicating with, and observing the subject, one comes up
with that conclusion I don't feel it's opiniated or ignorant
in any way, but more a sober man's study on his doped
friends.

you don't understand.
it's his opinion, yet he speaks as if it's fact.

all i know is the quote bothers me.
did he ever try LSD?

I assume he didn't after reading that quote, but then again,
and I quote from a Steven Seagal flick:"Assumption is the
mother of all fuck-ups".

well, i'm certain he never tried it because on this subject
he sounds like a fool. it's foolish to draw conclusions on a
subject like drugs, an internal phenomenon that by this very
nature can't be fully observed from the outside, such as he
did.
foolish. that's why it bothers me.

crocomire- if "its hard to draw conclusions on a subject
like drugs", your cutting down of everyone elses opinions is
all the more confusing.

"If you think E is less dangerous than alcohol, you've never

been chased by an electric guitar swinging E freak losing
contact with reality after snorting three pills in a row."

Maybe not but I almost got stabbed by a former friend who's
had too much to drink a few weeks ago.
And last year I almost got killed because a friedn who I was
with started shit with a gang.... andhe almost got beaten up
by a drunk maori ...all that shit.

I seriously reckon you're more likely to get in a fight if
there's alcohol involved then when E is involved

some of you seem to be under the impression that the only
legitimate experience worth forming an opinion over a drug
that a person can have is by ingesting it. i don't think
that this is the case...

never tried LSD, don't want to. anyway i quit, so yeah.

about half my cd collection has been rendered useless.

maybe so, but I think if you haven't done it and don't know
people who do, then it's likely that you don't know enough o
make a decent decision.

It's like you hate techno when you've never heard it before,
or something.

yes, you're more likely to get in a fight when drunk than on
e, but like all drugs its a matter of dosage really, and
while alcohol generally loosens you're inhibitions and makes
you stupid, amphetamine drugs will make you psychotic in
high enough doses. id rather take on someone who is drunk
and belligerant than try to deal with someone in the depths
of amphetamine psychosis. Also, regarding non-users opinions
- a non user can still observe the negative effects of drugs
on others as an absolute without doing the trade off against
the buzz they get, so in a way theyre perfectly suited to
assessing how beneficial/ harmful drugs are.

no, i said it's hard to draw conclusions on something like
drugs WITHOUT TRYING THEM FIRST as kubrick seems to have
done, from looking at that quote.

offline Crocomire from plante (United States) on 2003-03-27 21:50 [#00620638]
Points: 2116 Status: Lurker

well and let me say this, it's not hard to draw some
conclusions like maybe you see people on drugs acting a
certain way and you say to yourself, i don't want to act
like that, so you don't take the drug. but it is impossible
to UNDERSTAND why they act that way if you've never ingested
the drug. what kubrick seems to have done is to not
understand the situation fully, and his conclusions may be
fine for him, i don't care what he does, but he can't
rightfully say the things he says about the people he's
observed because he really doesn't know what he's talking
about.

"perhaps when everything is beautiful nothing is
beautiful."

actually, i think he points out an interesting aspect of
drug use with that part of the quote...i can relate to it
anyhow. drugs pretty much lost all meaning for me when i
starting taking into account the fact that they completely
changed the way i felt about things, and i really wasn't
involved anymore. sure, they're fun...but kind of a time
killer...for me, they're fake emotion anyways. and many
will say that they unleash certain creativities...but i
would give somebody who is naturally wildly creative more
credit than someone who induces it with drugs anyways.
