what about the laptop he left on a plane in Scotland...
he´s never heard the stuff on the web so it was probably
wiped or maybe it´s gathering time-delay potency!

Hey, joyrex.. was that dancer a long-haired dude with a
beard? May have seen him dance at RDJs ambient set in Dublin
1999.... he´s a nuttah

RDJ + SP + leaving MP3 player/laptops on planes = total
bollocks :)

Paul (at least in 91) is totally bald; there is a pic on him
in the Aphex section on watmm, kind of sepia coloured one...
row 6 (from the top), one before the last (from left to
right). This was a magazine pic of him sent to me ages ago.

I've never seen the long haired guy...might be Paul, but I
doubt it.

I dunno...Richard (especially nowadays) is probably VERY
careful about his music, as he knows many humans are out to
get it any way they can, and for him to a) lose an MP3
player with HIS music on it - think about it, I doubt he
listens to only his music) and then b) say he lost it in a
magazine he KNOWS the fans will read) I think he was just
winding us all up with that statement.

What you mean just feeding the fans with more stuff to
gossip about, such as...

"Wow, imagine finding that... what a great Christmas present
that would be etc!"

I read in the nme interview i think that Grant apparently
warned him about owning such an item. - More lies or a group
conspiracy?

Indeed - I highly doubt Rich, Grant or any of those guys
fuck about with MP3 players - they'd sooner use MD or their
own laptops to listen to their own music (especially on a

I found some interesting mp3 called chastic1, chastic2,
chastic3 and chastic4.
Chastic 3 is the "famous" q-chastic CAT002, but with an
inusual enough good quality audio (very strage).
Chastic1,2 and 4 are unknown tracks but they could be fakes,
it doesn't seem the chastic style, imo.
I hope to finish download of track3 and 4 soon.

The QChastic track is available on CD - On the ART1
Compilation...a joint release between Rephlex & ART (another
early IDM.Dance label)....it crops up on EBay quite a
lot...

So that probably explains the good quality of that MP3
track, Wooofer...

CAT002 the EP is just too perfect a part of the Aphex legend
to actually exist...a lot of people have been looking for a
long time for this record...

BTW that ART comp has also got the SOIT-PP & BLUE CALX (as
on SAWII) tracks...more very early AFX stuff...

The version of CAT002 (Q-Chastic) that is on the ART2
compilation is TOTALLY different than the one that appears
on CAT002 (the test pressing).

The tracks you found Woofer are fakes, made by someone else.

There was - it was intended to be a double 10" that was
pressed onto double 12" and the area from the edge to the
10" region is smooth. (one track per side)

Alan Perry used to have one, and Grant (in his interview I
did with him) says the track is not the same as the one on
the ART2 compilation.

Far, far less than 100 were pressed.

i believe you, i'm just surprised cos everything besides
this has pointed to it not existing outside of a DAT or a
hard drive. i mean mike p knows rdj really well and in his
email he said that he's never heard it or seen it, and he's
been to rdj's house and rephlex vault(s). plus if it existed
in any form it should hypothetically be online and on ebay.
MFM and AB5 are limited and they're on. funny world.

Other than it was done by RDJ, no.

Phlid is released - sort of - it came with a magazine on a
cassette called 'Secret Tracks 2' (the name of the mag
escapes me at the moment and I can't be arsed to look it
up).

Tits: RDJ told me the DAT for CAT002 were at his parent's
house in (_____) (sorry, not going to divulge that, that's
personal information) in storage. Since CAT002 was created
around the formation of Rephlex Records (and Mike met Rich
after he had already formed Rephlex) there is a chance Mike
never got to hear it.

Of course, this is just speculation, and Q-Chastic IS
bollocks - after all, why in the world do a double 10"
pressing for 4 tracks? I always thought that was weird. The
whole 7" thing was a mistake (a 7 and a 10" are easy to
mistake, especially considering that it was cut on a 12" and
all anyone had to go by was how much vinyl wasn't etched
from the leading edge inward).

There are lots of RDJ stuff that is out there that is NOT on
the net - and I'm not talking about live shows. That goes
for almost any artist - BOC, AE, Squarepusher, you name it.
All depends on who has the material, and who they give it to
and if those people are as trustworthy as the initial
source.

i don't live in the uk, names of cities and towns would be
useless to me anyway.. don't you find it strange how mike
would neverh ave found q-chastic among rdj's other releases
at his house or in the vaults?

you're right tho about unreleased material. it can and
usually does exist in a void between the artist's collection
and public domain (the internet). and usually the people
who've heard it, which tend to be those who know the
artists, are completely silent about what they've heard. of
the limited amount of this sort of music i've heard, i
haven't told anyone. maybe some day, but not anytime soon.

back to rdj tho, he seems fond of cassette tapes (i guess
he's probably upgraded to cd-r's and mp3's now?). the SAW
85-92 original tapes, MFM, etc. i bet there're tapes
straight on till '96 at the earliest (perhaps still to
today).

Yes, i agree with you about fakes, but the track "cat002"

I used to subscribe to Select. From September 1994 to the
very last issue January 2001 I had almost every copy. It was
a great magazine that got worse all the time, unfortunately.

The losing of the mp3 player is true...

Long time before this story hit the press, my mate had
booked afx to play up in glasgow.

Supposedly he turned up with a really sour looking face as
he had lost his mp3 player with all the music he was going
to Dj with...(much easier to turn up at a gig with something
that slips into your pocket than a laptop) and had to go out
and buy some replacement records. Which mostly turned out to
be ambient....

cue a lot of up for it scots (waiting for some manic drill
and bass) rapidly turning angry as aphex played long
beatless tracks.

cirrus logic, i appreciate your invaluable insight, but it
is filled with glaring brain wrongs. Firstly, i was at said
gig, and yes he did play the full version of Gwarek 2, which
i assume is the beatless track you are referring. This was
months and months before drukqs was released and i 'just
knew' that it was an afx track and secondly me and me mates
thought it sounded fuckin smart, hey, i even busted out a
few 'ambient moves' just for good measure. The rest of the
set was a torrid implosion of ragga/gabba, black and fucking
decker cunt core, hard as fucking nails so it was, i remeber
it vividly. And i spoke with rdj after the gig and asked him
if he was playing 'live' he admitted to doing so quite a bit
lately but not really that night because he had just bought
a brand new laptop and hadnt got round to putting all his
proggies on it yet. So basically he had his laptop anyway,
which would have stored all them mp3's and more, the only
thing i agree with is the fact that he did in fact 'clowned
it up' and lost the player, why would he bullshit, these
things do happen and converse to current belief rdj is in
fact a human being, like the rest of us, not a floaty space
baby all covered in diamonds and god dust.

offline cirrius logic on 2002-11-11 08:38 [#00436774]

At this gig he just played ambient and people were getting
agro waiting for some beats that never came.. I think this
was around the same time he did that gig in London with the
large record of ambient and just played both sides and that
was his dj set.... early 2000?

Now of course the losing mp3 player is true...but if that
really contained drukqs tracks etc ahhh who gives a sh**

hmmmmm, im not sure we are talking about the same gig, the
ultra hardcore noisefest i attended was at the art school,
early 2000, and as i said apart from the pleasant and
welcome interlude of what turned out to be Gwarek2, it was
straight back to hardcore 200+bpm, he played some of the
best ragga i ever did hear that night, oh and he played what
turned out to be 54 cymru beats, so im not sure who's
feeding you this misinformation but the set that night was
blinding, maybe your mates couldnt handle the ambient
interlude, and to be fair i did see some monkeys looking
about not knowing WHAT to do with themselves when he played
gwarek2, but it sounded amazing, and thats all that counts.
