Hiller, if you make music with software, you're basically
playing a videogame.

I disagree- you wouldn't call scoring a piece by hand to
sheet music "playing a board game" would you?

That said, videogames are great :)

not a "board" game, but a game. Kinda more like sim city or
doomcad, because it's fun comes mostly from creation (not
really competition etc). That'd be cool if there was an
"enemy" of destruction constantly battling you and
destroying your creations.

Gamecubes are sooo adorable! Even if I didn't play games
I'd buy one just to carry around with me as a fashion
accessory!

I just got my son (aged 8) a Gamecube for his birthday last
month, and with it I got SSX: Tricky (which he had already
played as a rental on my PS2). Awesome game, very deep, long
gameplay value, and killer music and graphics.

As for other GC recommendations, I recommend Mario Sunshine
(awesome, can't say enough about it - Cabbog - those
backpack-less levels are easier if you rotate the camera
ABOVE the area - much easier to judge distances in pseudo 2D
;)

Super Monkey Ball 1 or 2 are awesome games as well...super
deep, long and totally fun mini-games.

Unfortunately, I forsee Nintendo dropping hardware
development once the GC's life cycle (about 2-3 years) is
run it's course, and Nintendo takes Sega's position as a top
3rd party software maker. They'll still support the Gameboy
Advance - I bet that sucker is around in 10 years from now,
just like the original Gameboy is.

why would they do that nintendo s still making good games
and making profit?
(unlike micro$oft w/ their xbox)

I've really been wanting to play these- are they like marble

Im undecided about that...

But Woofer makes a good point, and I would much be sitting
on the couch infront of the TV playing a game rather than by
the PC.

nah, computergames have the nicest flair i've ever seen,
especially the old ones, monkey island, sierra series, and
yeah, you are much more flexible than on a console, console
games have no souls, they're almost the same, fight, race or
jump n'run, it's a medium for peoples who just want have fun
on standard games. you buy it, game it, fin. but you have
all these things on a computer- princo; just plug in a tv
card and you have the same fun on a tv screen. look
microsoft, they ruin the whole computergame scene, every
game will be releases first for the x-boy, then for pc.

I had it on the spectrum, it couldn't handle the arcade
levels, but it had a level designer :)

The music to the arcade version was great!

I'm starting to think that computer games are going to be
where all the great obscure "autechre's" and "otto von
schirach's" are going to be.
It has the best control pad (or CIN "see in"... that's c++
speak for people who are EXPERTS in it, people like me)
since it uses all the normal fingers to push buttons instead
of one single thumb. in doom2 though, you had to "waste" 4
entire fingers on the directional pad... so i think the best
joystick would be gripping it with all your fingers (8
buttons) and 2 d-pads or analogue directional pads for your
thumbs to maximize possible simultaneous button smushes.

I've never enjoyed PC games. They lack the magic. Zelda,
Metroid, Mario, Sonic, Resident Evil, Castlevania, Mega Man,
Final Fantasy, these series are mostly console based. I
can't name any PC only series that have the cool fresh feel
of those games. The top PC games always seem to be generic
multi player first person games. I'm just no interested in
that stuff. Strategy games can be nice, but again, it's
just... no match for Mega Man.

Consoles forever, beyotches.

side scrollers rawk. 3-d games all seem like doom or doom
rip offs to me. Consoles rarely crash too :)

the GC has a few great franchises but in the long run it
will be the poorest of the 3 consoles...xbox = DC's
spiritual successor, anyone who wants to dispute that fact
i'll gladly argue with them :)

Kings Quest V and VI by Sierra were amazing. Playing them
as an introverted little boy completely changed my
perception of reality... I also liked the Space Quest
series but I tried desperately not to relate to Roger Wilco.
I think my favorite one was the fourth.. Time Rippers was
it? Never played Leisure Suit Larry or Quest for Glory.

Yeah I became a very adventures young lad after playing the
sierra games!

Kings Quest 3 was my Favourite Kings Quest.......
I really liked the Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, and
Space Quest Series!! Damn they were great!

As a young boy, I remember school holidays that would seem
to last forever and I would play sierra games with a good
mate!

Sadly, Nintendo is in 3rd place, behind Microsoft and Sony
in terms of consoles sold, and in profits. Microsoft loses
the most per console, but Nintendo has shipped fewer units
than MS has, and certainly less than Sony (but they had
almost a year head start).

I can see how Super Monkey Ball can be compared to Marble
Madness...but infinately more detailed and fun.

Kings quest 5 and 6 were good, the rest sucked, 8 wasnt bad
though. I only like strategy games and fps on pc. im
mainly console.

and Microsoft is and has been in 3rd place from the getgo.
Nintendo is not behind xbox at all.

last week or this week gamecube sales were higher than PS2.
although thats just for a little bit because of mario its
still significant. xbox was not even close to even nearing
ps2 by a longshot

There's exceptions, of course there's some great games for
PC. But there's so much derivative crap on them, too... for
every great FPS, there's 500 crap reworkings of some other
engine.

As for Gamecube... the selection sucks right now, but in a
few months there's going to be like 5 games I need to get...
there's very few PS2 games that I'm looking forward to.

It's like that for every gaming platform you quack! For
every Mario you get, soon afterwards you also have a Bubsy,
Crash Bandicoot, Blinx, Rocky Racoon, Jay Lesser, Bonk the
Caveman, etc, etc, add nauseum. It's a fundamental law.

how to do a DARKSLIDE (invented by rodney mullen, freestyle
skater). the game is way funny, those tricks are
IMPOSSIBLE.

i tell him he can play the game a little, but we always go
outside and have fun, ride bikes, skateboard and

It's cool =oD

It is kind of a kiddies game, but not too kiddie (I've been
stuck a few times, but that doesn't say much =o\)

I havent finished it yet though, but looking at the map it's
not that small. Not as big as some mario games tho.

I'd give it about 6 1/2 - 7 out of 10
