and that's it!

btw seems there might have been different play orders, maybe
depending on location. i saw people posting TESTING
12345678910 long after that track played for me.

well that was lovely.

The one with the juggly beat approx 4-5 tracks in (can't say
what was interludes) was not great IMO - sounded too much
like a weed-driven session too me, but I'm sure it'll grow
on me.

The rest was better than I expected. There's at least 6
favorites for me so far.

Verdict: Will need repeated listens to decide quite how
great it is, but easily album of the year for me so far.
Very, very happy to see a return to proper BoC and none of
this guitar nonsense.

I liked Reach For The Dead, Split Your Infinities, New
Seeds, Semena Mertvykh and maybe Come To Dust. 2nd half was
better than first, imho

Not too shabby for such an hyped up project

Well, I smoked before I streamed, and it was quite
uncomfortable in the moment - but re-listening now and it
doesn't sound as uncomfortable anymore, but a bit tedious
still. It feels like +6 minutes at least.

they can still bring the magic like no one else! (imo of
course etc...)

appreciate... too bad well have to wait ages for a new boc

Think you're going a little overboard with the "guitar
nonsense", there was no such nonsense on TCH.

Man I'm speechless. I had listened to the whole thing lying
down, eyes shut in a half asleep state. It was so trippy
hearing what they've been up to again, really dark and
cerebral at times.

I felt that one track really stood for me out as being
Coil-esque, if i can describe it that way. So happy I
ordered vinyl and the cd, this is gonna sound crazy on the
hifi.

great to have them back, i'll bet that this is the last from
them.

Am I the only one who thinks "Jacquard Causeway" (the 6
minute track with the juggly beat) would have been better
off without the beat, or at least with some variations in
the beat? I just feels so heavy compared to the rest, and
doesn't feel like it fits in.

i cant remember the tunes, or identify track titles yet, but
you may be true, junktion... there was a tune on which my
flat mate said 'that one is nice' then the beat come in and
she said she didnt liked it anymore

I just looked at The Quietus review, and the
description definitely fits. I hope it grows on me like
"Iced Cooly", which took some better headphones to get used
to.

"Cold Earth" is one of my favorites. Just seems more like
the BoC we know from MHTRTC and Geogaddi - not to say that
this isn't a unique album with its own sound, but I was
secretly crossing my fingers for a track like "Cold Earth".

I love jacquard causeway but I agree that it's the one track
that doesn't fit the albums theme on first listens. Or maybe
it does.. it's definitely the stoner track of the year.

I was very happy with Cold Earth. Holy shit. Same goes for
Nothing is Real and others. What a treat!

Actually Palace Posy is the track that didn't fit the theme
for me.

Yes. 'Cold Earth', 'Sick Times', 'Palace Posy', 'Nothing Is
Real' and 'New Seeds' stand out as solid BoC-tracks. It's
the usual way they do album - a handful of solids in between
another handful of interludes. I'm still not feeling
'Jacquard Causeway', but it might happen at some time. Right
now it feels like a bump on the road of an otherwise
brilliant record.

..'Come to Dust' is also a solid BoC tune

Haven't re-heard the album today, I can't wait tho!!

I'm scared though:
Yesterday, when I heard the first track, i thought: "Sounds
like Dario Argento".
And when i heard the third one, i thought: "Sounds like John
Caropenter".
And now I'm re-reading this review i already read last
week:
Quietus Review

What's scary is that what I thought was MY opinion was what
I read last week. I really didn't remember I READ that and
not found it myself.

I found the whole album incredibly musically
uninteresting..
So I'm dissapointed even though I didn't have high hopes to
start with after their previous album.
As far as I'm concerned the last interesting thing BOC did
was Geogaddi.
I did only find their few old tunes 1 and 2 a few years ago
and am loving that.
The only track that is somewhat solid to me is new seeds
(and the beginning of the next track is nice to before they
mess it up), the rest is put together so badly it almost
sounds like amateur work if it wasn't for the good
production/sound quality.

My guess is they had a really good workflow in their old
studio with their Ensoniq synths and effect, right up to
Geogaddi where they used the last real Ensoniq synth the
Fizmo. After that I don't know what they've been using but
the magic is GONE for me.

And thanks for the link to Black Dog - 3/4 Heart, have
always loved it :) Miles above anything on tomorrow's
harvest.

You must be Dutch, you have a sober and well formed opinion.
My only problem is that you've only heard the album once.

Jacquard:
1. A fabric with an intricately woven pattern.
2. A special loom or the method employed in the weaving of a
figured fabric

Causeway:
1. A raised roadway, as across water or marshland.
2. A paved highway.

I've heard it 4 times now, and I share the same opinion
exactly. Though, alongside "New Seeds", which is ok, I also
like the end of "Palace Posy".
Not a bad album, but uninteresting and dull. Not even
a single good melody. Nuffin!

And I Overflow, man.

Not impressed at all, Jacquard Causeway was kindof nice but
the rest was so-so..

Feels like they're just reusing the same old tricks.
Whatever.. Didn't expect a masterpiece

So when's RDJ releasing anything new?

Still need to hear this for the second time, but my first
impression was that I liked it a lot. There were a few parts
that I didn't like but overall I loved it.

@chambre noir: using the old tricks is in my opinion the
right thing to do, they made great things with those tricks
and maybe you can say BOC are those tricks. It's like saying
'oh I don't like the new metalica album they are using
guitars again'.

Some tracks are 3 minutes too long, while some are 3 too
short. I'm on my 4th listen now, the first was on a club
soundsystem, second on a good hi-fi, 3rd and 4th on
headphones. I'm finding there are several moments of really
excellent tension and promise that don't quite deliver the
smack or depth they're building up to, while on the other
hand a handful of tracks are nice, welcome additions to the
catalogue.
The cleaner production does give it a modern feel, but at
times takes strength from their warm and bristly edge and
kills the VHSsy richness.
They definitely could have laid off the arps in my books, as
they sounded a bit played out after the 4th or 5th time. The
counting in Telepath is a bit like a self-parody of a Boards
tune, and I found it really disappointing, though some of
the vocal processing was quite tasty and impressive.

Fuck it I'm going for another listen
