It was / is enormous and a couple of doors down from a large
bookshop, is all I remember. Outside the centre of
Inverness. We stopped off for supplies before heading over
to Gairloch.

it's funny how a thread about stella artois lager turns into
a 'my fav beer is this and that and it's top quality unlike
that garbage stella blablabla'

if you seriously think one type of lager makes you behave in
odd ways or gives you a freakish hangover time after time,
you probably shouldn't be drinking at all.

oooh yeah we're so cool we all LOVE beers, lagers and ales
innit. Drinking alcohol is so hip on xltronic I sure am glad
to be part of the movement.

Did i mention i LOVE stella artois?

stella was the only beer possible to drink when i was in
scotland. those 237 ml or whatever bottles were shit though.

I don't mind stella. Id rather drink ales though. Stella
definitely gives you a worse hangover than the ales, and
noone likes having a hangover really. My preference is
nothing to do with being 'cool' - have you ever been to a
real ale festival? The peeps there are anything but 'cool'.
But hey have a rant moment if you like it's all personal
preference. Well that, or I'm cool as fuck cos i drink beer.

I'm still wondering if you actually believe that nonsense
about a certain brand of lager turning people into train

on tap stella has a higher alcohol content than your average
beer, so your general punter is generally going to
considerably be more the worse for wear after 6 stella than
6 harp or whatever- ergo more messiness- "wifebeater" is a
very common nickname for stella in the uk. I assume you are
from elsewhere. so if you don't think there's a correlation
between violent behaviour and alcohol i suggest you go on a
friday night. do you have anything else to add?

He didn't even mention anything about wifebeater in that
post? So your post was a complete non sequitir? Stella is
just over 5%, which is quite a lot stronger than many other
beers. No wonder 8 pints of the stuff will make you go a bit
loopy.

bottles are just over 5 but on pints on tap can be closer to
6 and over - i was informed by a friend who's been a bar man
for 6+ years. harp and shit is usually down 3-4%.

if a certain lager is stronger than others, you can't blame
it for making you behave differently. alcohol is alcohol and
if you notice that a certain drink is knocking you off your
feet too soon, you should slow down or stop fucking
drinking. you think the higher alcohol content in stella is
some kind of excuse for being an irresponsible cunt? as if
most people don't drink any other type of lager and don't
stop until they're absolutely shitfaced (on a friday night
at least).

as for the correlation between alcohol and violence, yes i
think we are all aware of that so honestly, is putting a
'wifebeater' tag on a lager not the most ridiculous,
ignorant and cowardly thing you people can possibly come up
with? please get a grip on yourself.

stoz that'll be the one known as 'big tescos'.

lupus: i'm 97% sure that stella from a tap or stella from
the bottle or stella from the can have the same % alcohol by
volume it used to be 5.2% but wiki and quick trip to my
fridge have confirmed that it is now 5%

this thread was fine until the last few posts when it took
on a typical xlt bitch fest. phuck you sir.

honestly, this is getting really tiresome.

Firstly do you take everything you read literally? I
personally did not make a line that said EVERYONE that
drinks stella is aggressive. It's a GENERALIZATION. It was a
20 word personal opinion based on experience. can you make
that distinction?

Secondly at no point did I state that I myself had used
stella as an excuse my own violence? Where on earth did you
make this connection? I'm not a binge drinker and i'm not a
fighter. I didn't state anywhere that it was an excuse for
anything by anyone. but thanks for your paragraph of haughty
advice.

Thirdly I didn't personally make up the "wifebeater"
nickname. Do you think it makes sense to tell someone to get
a grip on themselves because someone else in their country
made up a slang? more confused dribble.

LAZY_strongwifebeater

I personally think a stella hangover isn't worth it and
there's better beers in the world. But honestly if you can't
help but get sanctimonious when someone has an opinion that
doesn't agree with yours then maybe you should get another
pastime. being priggish isn't really called for, with me or
anyone else.

i'm considering that the end of this.

i'm quoting you directly here

'stella's pretty horrible. Turns people into train wrecks
and
gives you a serious chemical hangover, the 'wifebeater' tag
is for a reason. '

don't repeat the rubbish you've been brainwashed with. If
you get a heavy hangover from this it has as much to do with
your physiology. Please show us evidence that there are
chemicals in stella which cause this instead of just
assuming or repeating it.

there are tons of people who can drink the stuff without any
problems so it annoys me that a group of idiots is
determined to give it a bad name, yourself included. a type
or brand of drink can not be responsible for any problems
arising after people willingly choose to consume it and
that's all i'm trying to get you to acknowledge.

do you work for stella or something? Here's an adjustment-
maybe you can swallow this.

The following is a personal opinion not the work of a
defamatory gestalt against the stella corporation:-

I think stella's pretty horrible. In my experience it turns
some people into train wrecks and can give you a mingeing
chemical hangover. I think the 'wifebeater' image reflects
this is because it is stronger than your average beer, and
people do not consider this. The stella corporation
encourages the responsible use of their products.

no i don't work for stella. i would've defended any brand
like this no matter if i enjoy the product or not.

your opinion is useless to me however 'funny' you try to
word it because you still fail to see the fallacies
associated with your point of view.

Without going down the whole chemical / wifebeater route.

It's fairly easy to see why stella has a fairly bad rep, and
is well known for getting you very pissed. Whereas lager
such as Carlsberg or Carling is only 3.8% or 4% respectively
Stella is a whopping 5.2% in comparison. The price
difference between these drinks is normally about 10p. The
difference in drinking 8 pints of each of these lagers, and
the extra units you'd drink drinking stella is a substantial
amount. That is why people get so fucked up on it, whether
or not it contains chemicals. The wifebeater tag has only
strung about because of how much stronger it is than people
appreciate. Saying things like you get a heavy hangover from
Stella because of your physiology is one the one hand so
obviously true its not worth pointing out (your physiology
will dictate your hangover no matter what the drink), surely
the main point here is that it is just as easily to put away
6 cans of stella as it is 6 cans of carlsberg. There is for
most people, hard drinkers or not, a noticeable difference
in the hangover. Without even getting into the whole
'chemical shit' debate you're not making any sense.
