"i think i saw a couple boards of canada albums and she had
just one autechre cd, amber."

ok, forget it: she's superficial and stubborn. or she hasn't
listened to post chiastic slide era, and you've got a lot of
wickedness to play her ;)

asif she hasn't already. she's read this topic too. even had
a look at the super suppers site. matik will make her dinner
and she'll know exactly where he got the recipe from.
then, she'll look through his personal collection for the
analord binder, bail as quickly as possible back home and
post about it on watmm.

besides who goes to a rave to pull.

and this is exactly why there aren't many girls at an afx
gig. while the girls go to get pulled by those cool
idm-types, the guys just go to drool over richard's new
haircut and his equipment.

In the US, I seem to have a hard time finding anyone who is
in to Aphex or similar tastes in electronic music,
ESPECIALLY women!

I do remember an interview with RDJ where he talked about
girls who are into the kind of music he is. Basically he
said he was not for it, because of something like opposing
tastes are good or something to that effect. So if you take
the MAN's advice, he'd say drop her... but my advice would
be to sweep her up before some other fuckhead does.

Good luck, and also make sure you play AFX at the wedding of
course!

my boyfriend listens to shit-music... but he's a good guy
and we've got other things in common. Who cares if someone
doesn't like exactly the same things as you.
...tho it would be a lot easier to drive in the same car
with him.

i know musical tastes are far less important than so many
other things, but it has long been a fantasy of mine to meet
a nice girl with a passion for music, or anything.

i was begining to think that musical passion was dying or
dead. it seemed that everyone, when asked the question,
"what type of music do you like?" would inevitebly answer,
"oh, i like everything" or the even more gutless, "i like
everything, but country and classical". like fucking wow,
i'm in awe of your musical openmindedness.

i mean, i don't listen to main-stream country because i
don't care for it's veiled bigotry and mindless patriotism,
but i really try not to write off entire genres of music for
any reason and so i do listen to a few bands that are, while
not much like the stuff on the radio, are more country than
not. 16 horsepower is one country-esque band that i am not
ashamed to like.

no joke, the last girl i dated, about a month into our
relationship, when asked what type of music she liked, first
said, "everything" and then, after i pushed the issue,
amended it to, "everything, but techno".

after that i played "techno" in my car, at high volume,
whenever we drove anywhere, hoping to get her to complain,
but she never did. then one day she called venetian snares,
"interesting" and i had to fight the urge to drive us both
off of a cliff.

she was like that with books too. i'd be yapping, as i do,
about whatever book i happened to be reading at the time and
rather than telling me to shut the fuck up, as my honest and
semi-illiterate friends do, she'd act all interested and say
she'd like to borrow the book some time. when she'd finish
reading it she'd tell me how great it was, using these vague
responses that sounded suspiciously like my original praise.
just once i wanted to her to say that she'd not liked the
book, or even hated it, but she never did and so it was very
hard for me to respect her.

Lots of people listen to aphex twin, too much people
really.... Most of them think they know about it, because a
guy they know gave them 40gb of music on their hardrive...
Then they often refer to aphex twin as "they" and also say
"hum it's a bit like aphex twin" "or aphex twin kind of
music" when they hear a fast music....

I really hate these people...

i hadn't intended for that to turn into a rant about my ex,
but sometimes after three cups of coffee i just gotta talk a
little shit.

the dinner, it went well, i think. my friend D gave me a
simple recipe for chicken marsala over pasta. it wasn't too
hard and i think came out alright. she said she liked it,
but she may have just been being polite.

after dinner we "watched" The Kingdom. "listened to" would
perhaps be more accurate. it sounded like an interesting
flick, but not as interesting as her tongue. we both got
pretty turned on for a bit there, but she denied my hands
entrance at the gate of buttons and i, being a sometimes
gentleman, didn't pursue that avenue again. i know it's
probably best to wait a bit on the whole sex thing and i
like to think i'm patient, but jeez it took some will power
to not try my luck again.

she left before midnight and i took a cold shower and layed
in bed for a couple hours trying to sleep. if the weather
is good tomorrow i'm going to drive her into the mountains,
take her on a long hike and show her a few good views.

i agree, beNito. just about everyone i know that has any
aphex pretty much falls into that category.

the one that really gets to me is the burned cd titled:
"aphex twins".

"yeah, THEY'RE ok".

DIEEEEEE!

My wife will get into BOC, Radiohead, and some AFX. She is
not too into the hard acidy stuff but softer whimsical stuff
she seems to like more.

All people have a select few artists that they love and
peripheral ones they enjoy on occasion. I dated a girl for a
long time that liked similar music as me. Almost exactly the
same. I recommend it actually. I think its better than
someone liking something completely different. Not because
you both are in a vacuum, but you tend to have similar
tastes and can both easily introduce new music to each
other, but you can also be that person that introduces a
whole new world of music to someone and vis versa. This is
rare though. Especially as you get older. People get set in
their ways. Sounds shallow, but I pity some people and their
tastes in things.

I also dated a girl that would play the local Fm station at
home and I found that really annoying.

its far more interesting meeting a girl who doesnt know
aphex,
and then making her discover the beauty and fun of it...

i've had no luck making anyone do anything, let alone making
them discover a love for aphex.

and it's not for lack of trying...

i agree, though, it would be pretty interesting to watch
someone discover the beauty and fun, as you put it.
