think you should watch the bonus discs on the extended
version, to see just how much they took from his performance
on set.

sounds to me like you should first actually watch the films,
before coming to these conclusions..

the same goes for all your comments in this thread.

i'm convinced it may the greatest film of all time... at
least of the big budget epic story kind...

it's been a long time since i actually cared what happened
to the characters, and actually felt tension in scenes where
they were in danger.

most movies it's just 'see which character dies next' and
not really care. the lotr movies had more emotional impact
than most of the movies i've ever seen.

i loved it.

it was neccessary
it was the end of the trilogy

pjackson wanted to go back where it al begun to show how
they had saved that quiet world...how all the adventure had
been to protect that kind of life like in the shire... to
show how god persisted at the end

to show that this people wanted to live peacefully... even
though they had been fighting alltime in the last 3 years...
they had been fighting for that... to go back to their nice
lifes

well, you already said you never saw the movies... and
didn't you say you never finished the books? So how can you
comment on the depth of the story if you know nothing about
it?

it was a fucking amazing movie though... all of them
together make up probably my favorite movies... I don't
know, I just got so into these, and each one is a
masterpiece, with this last one finally ending it... I
didn't read the ending of the return of the king, so it was
cool so see how it really did end... I loved the begining,
showing how Gollum turned... and the end where Frodo turned
evil... it was cool how the ring was thrown in the lava
really by accident... also, Shelob and just everything
really, was great...

there were some really annoying guys sitting up in front of
me though... during the Shelob scene, when it was really
silent, the guy let out this huge scream... and then during
the sad scenes he would pretend to be crying... God, I just
wanted to bash his head in...

precisely.

it would be like me slating war & peace.. im ashamed to say
ive never read it.

there was a thing on tv the other week about lotr, and
somebody criticised the book for being too simplistic in its
distinction between good & evil (ie. a character is either a
"goodie" or a "baddie")
i know i dont need to explain why here, but this to me is
clearly the comment of somebody who hasnt even attemt to
read the books..
perhaps they read a synopsis of the movies in their local
newspaper.. or maybe they overheard a man talking about lotr
in a noisy bar once.. maybe.. or maybe they made up their
mind without knowing anything about it in the first place.

very good movie. definately my favorite out of the three,
and i liked all of them a good bit.

and, although i know it's the cliche thing to point out, i
still have to mention that i could've done without so much
of the hobbit gayity. i am well aware of the fact that the
book makes a strong point of the close bonds between the
hobbits, but it doesn't come across quite as flaming in the
books.

still a truly good movie/trillogy.

i really was expecting sam & frodo to go full blown mouth
kiss on the slopes of mt. doom.

lol,
but the "hobbit gayity" i think is actually much more
pronounced in the books. for example sam often kisses
frodo's hand or kisses his forehead. they cuddle up a lot
to sleep, especially towards the end of the book. and there
is a kinda comical scene when Sam rescues Frodo from the
tower and Frodo is completely naked. if anything, i think
it was actually toned down a bit for the movie.

but on one of the DVD extras for the two towers, they
mention that this is very much based on British army custom
around WWII when high ranking officers often had an
assistant that was extremely close to them. like smithers
is to mr. Burns kinda.

showing affection for someone of the same sex as you does
not make you gay.

offline X-tomatic from ze war room on 2003-12-24 18:33 [#01004857]

I've seen more of these morons posting about "gay" stuff in
Lotr on Imdb,it's really a typical American reaction, not
understanding where the whole story came from and that it
clearly doesn't imply anything sexual, ever. Not even the
honest and virtuous romance and marriage between Aragorn and
Lady Arwen was sexual, it was love. I know nowadays these
sort of things are impossible to imagine for most of the
angsty teenage world, but really this did once exist

so i watched two towers and it was quite alright, not
intellectually provoking or anything. of course my remark on
gollom was pretty stupid not having seen the movie, i see
how they drew him pretty exactly on it, you probably cant
otherwise in a real set, gollom was pretty great actually.
all other performances i thought pretty poor exept frodo.
but it's not really about the performances anyway. yes the
battle was pretty okay imo too. from the whole film not much
lingers but it was okay to sit through. might have to watch
1 again, but as it is i stand by my feeling it was pretty
empty, but i was pretty drunk when i watched it so maybe
that was me. i still cant see how people can think it to be
the best movie ever.
of course my posts arent bullshit, since it was my honest
imo.

The Fellowship Of The Ring was boring, Two Towers was really
great, I find The Return Of The King mediocre (except for
the special effects), though i quite enjoyed the movie.
Maybe the end was the long for me. LOTR is overrated, All 3
films are in the IMDB top 10, above all the hitchcock and
kubrick films (!). That's just not right.

well, they had the slightest hint of bullshit about them
because you were expressing opinions about something you
hadn't seen or read. which is a bit silly. :P

also, I think you had your opinions formed already, so the
movie would have had to been MINDBLOWING to ever be able to
convince you.

I don't see the point in trying to intellectualize something
that's just supposed to be a good story - you either enjoy
it or you don't.

I don't think these are the best films ever - far from it.
but they are good films - a good story told in a competent
way.

x-tomatic: you so understand me! :D
qrter: i dont know what happened, partly it was that i saw
the trailer half a year before the first and thought: wow,
this is gonna be the best movie ever, really, i like scifi
and startrek.. partly it'll be stupid me not liking that it
got so popular. if it hadnt been id would have emphasized
the good things in it instead of the bad ones.
anywho: i now saw the last one, and thought it was soso, i
couldnt be bothered to much with all the fights anymore, did
have some more emotional depth with them hugging eachother
and stuff, that was sweet. i like two towers best then. just
like the second, fifth star wars, empire strikes back, maybe
it's the darkest one too.
bye now,

was the second time id seen it.
think i enjoyed it more.
the little things id felt let down by the first time seemed
to fit more comfortably.
after all, its someone elses interpretation of the story..
not mine.
else id have made billions of dollars, not peter jackson.
