i think besson is not a good director, or maybe im not into
his kind of movies..
i liked le grand bleu, but hated nikita, leon, all that
stuff, and the taxi trilogy, thats shitty. plus i dont like
the guy besson himself.
françois ozon is a better french director. he did sitcom, 8
femmes, and la pianiste ( not the pianist :)
and jean pierre jeunet : city of lost children, delicatessen
(even alien 4 , bah nobodys perfect)

8 femmes? oh please. The only one in that worth anything was
fanny ardant and even then! Deneuve was only ever good in
indochine.

in fact i only saw la pianiste and sitcom.. i thought 8
femmes was good but didnt see it coz it is a musical
i hate new musicals
most of the french films are trying to be as big as
hollywood shits, and most of the rest is too stupid, long
films on boring subjects.

ok, my 1 top fav is...

Straight Story (D.Lynch)

Not a single sex scene or a drop of blood!
You can go to church on sundays without a single spot on
your karma.

What a beautiful movie! I want the soundtrack played on my
funeral. Angelo Badalamenti 0wnz.

Talking about french movies:

les valseuses
la maman et la putain
les vacances de m. Hulot
jules et jim
les 400 coups

Now for the international (american) movies
paris-texas
scarface
lost highway
taxi driver

but also
In the mood for love
the killer
la vita e bella ( life is beautiful )

so many man good movies and so much crap at the local
blockbuster. Burn Hollywood burn ! and take your last
cowboy/president with you.

Does Brazil have a bad ending? I watched it at night, I
don't remember clearly.

i think a genre should be specified... its hard to compare
comedies with sci-fi and such.. Citizen Kane is a damn good
film, but my favorite would have to be City of Lost
Children... my niece was named after Miette!

Depends which version you saw. The American version has a
happy ending which entirely defeats the point of the film. I
have a 3 DVD box set which includes both versions and it's
quite interesting to compare the two. Plus it's got
Gilliam's commentary on why it's such so godamn awful from
an editing point of view. The 'real' Brazil has a
soul-crushing ending.

Im just gonna throw out a few of my tops (besides ones
already mentioned):

Logans Run (soooo good)
Zardoz (also very good, sean connery kicks ass)
Home Alone
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (part I)
The Goonies
Willie Wanka's (fuckin scary as hell)

basically I like movies that put me in a wierd mood,
especially old sci fi and fantasy movies, like Logans Run,
Zardoz, Barbarella, and Red Baron. ;)

Never watch Zardoz stoned. You will spend hours trying to
figure it out. Either watch it clean, or get so baked that
it simply washes over you like a fine green mist.
