I'm compelled to ask, why would you give the benefit of the doubt to a bunch of strangers whose goal was to commit suicide by blowing up themselves along with thousands of innocents, women and children included? I'm not really giving them the benefit of the doubt.. I think it's reasonable to give the IDEA that they're islamist terrorists the benefit of the doubt, as opposed to taking into account every possibility: that they're Real IRA/Eire32 terrorists, that they're terrorists trying to bring down the english monarch, etc etc. I think we can safely conclude that they're doing this because of what they see as persecution of and violence against the muslim people (their muslim "brothers") over the past century. Apparently some of those arrested were of pakistani origin or heritage. So I think it's an absolutely safe assumption. So, I'll rephrase what i've been saying - we need to examine and validate the grievances that've led the way to the creation of this ideology of islamist violence against the western world, to which these guys obviously subscribe. Have I satisfied you? Sorry if I haven't, but bear with me here. And no, I'm not a terrorist apologist or sympathiser.. I just think it's worthwhile trying to understand where people are coming from in order to bang out a solution. |

bah, im not gonna both sorting through all of these right now, but i like to add my two cents: increased security will never prevent "terrorist" attacks because the terrorists dont break the rules: they find ways around them. with 9-11, they did nothing illegal until the actual hijacking of the plane, they used entirely legal boxcutters as weapons. same with this. there was nothing being snuck on the plane illegaly, just seperate gels which could be combined to create an explosive. to somewhat quote jeff goldblum in jurassic park, no matter how hard you try, the terrorists will find a way. they dont break the rules, they find ways around them and exploit them. loop holes. tighter security only means next they will be smuggling explosive nonmetallic bombs in their asses or something. you cant stop it. |

This is such bullshit. None of the alleged terrotists had made a bomb or bought plane tickets and many didn't have passports. The supposed bomb plot was revealed via the interrogation in Pakistan of a guy who fled Britain years ago after his uncle was murdered. I we supposed to go on evidence from likely torture?! |
