How do you 'ban' someone from a message board? Can't they

I'm not the one to deal moral lessons, I guess... But I
think this was such a sad thing to do. I say: If you don't
care about other people and think it's OK to go around
hurting them (physically or otherwise), that's your fucking
right if you can pull it off. But doing it for this kind of
cheap, stupid fun is so shallow and lame. Besides you might
have got shot or arrested, how cool would that have been? I
wouldn't want to be hanging around with you, Reflex, if this
is how you imagine having fun. I got pulled a gun at when I
was working at the store, but that was a reall 7.69 fucker
and I would have killed this guy, had I the chance. You're
obviously toying with more that you're aware of, man. I know
of people doing similar things for art's sake and all, but
this is so shallow and lame...

of some of the tossers I went to school with.

How would you have felt if you're mother/sister came home

You've got a brain;use it as its a waste otherwise.

I don't care about "crossing the line". I'm not passing any
moral judgment here. If you want to go around waving a gun
at people, I'm not going to think you're in some way worse

if you'd move into my neighbourhood, I'd shoot you.

It doesn't really matter if this is real or made up. The
idea that certain people think this is cool or fun is what
is off-putting.
Anyway, since Jonesy didn't bring this up, I guess I'll have
to be the one: the fact that these things happen regularly
(not just fake gun threats but also actual armed robberies
and muggings) just reflects the bad way our society is
structured. Big fucking communiuties with alienated
individuals who don't know each other. Anarchists and
communists always receive a lot of flack for insisting that
best way to organise living would be small, independent
communities (comunes, for those who are slow to catch the
drift), with a common question how would you stop crime
without police force/ authorities etc. They fail to see that
in a small comunity (a figure of 500 individuals has been
tested as the best) these crimes simply wouldn't be allowed
to happen. People like reflex wouldn't be able to pull these
things off because it is their anonymity that allows them.
Not that I am an anarchist or communist... And of course,
these communities would have numerous other problems
threattening their existance.

Interesting point. Time for some Marxist dogman Meho;

Capitalism creates a society of alienated individuals like
Rephlex, or criminals (not just prats), who either get their
kicks pulling shit like this or, out of necessity, real
crime. Our policeforces across the world can't, and are not
there to, solve crime and deal with social problems.

The centre of the problem is the fact that our societies are
undemocratic. We don't have the power to deal with the
problems in our own communities because it is taken away
from us.

Something like you were talking about is the only way to
deal with these problems.

This doesn't make Rephlex any less of a muppet

The problem with multiple small communites or communes (have
a read of "The Triffids") is that you'd get some aggressive
communes that would try to enslave/steal from the other
ones.

offline Meho Krljic from Beograd (Yugoslavia) on 2002-03-07 14:06 [#00115567]

Uh, no, not that kind of Marxist... I mean, we had a subject
in school called Marxism (I probably mentioned this before)
and for a while, this was the only critical thought system I
was aware of.

But seriously, I agree with your thoughts on this. I just
don't believe in revolution (and have kind of stopped
believing in evolution either)(let's hope that this is
gramatically correct)

I hope you don't mind me picking your brains. Do you see any
possibility for a different way of organising society or are
we at the mercy of global capitalism and US imperialism?

offline Ceri JC from Jefferson City (United States) on 2002-03-07 14:12 [#00115577]

I, no matter what my views on the acceptability of it are,
can honestly say I believe there will be no change in
capitalism in our lifetime.

I'm not so certain about US imperialism, all empires crumble
eventually. Look at the "British Empire" now... Mind you,
our cultural influence, like America's is still wide
spread.

I forsee an assimilation of cultures into a large, capital
driven world community. Already in nearly all countries
there is evidence of cultural assimilation in terms of
clothing, food, art, design, &etc.
