jonesy: i don't mind if you do mate. It's just there's no time/ space here to seriously discuss such difficult topics (besides, phobia and co. would probably have me banned for spamming). I have a lot of thoughts on this but that would need a lot of evenings over a pint or two to discuss. (not that I drink alcohol, but you get the general idea). We are not at the mercy of the imperialism as long as we refuse to play the political economy game. When I talked about damaging our bodies yesterday I was only half joking. Try and find Baudrillard's "Symbolical Interchange and Death" for more ideas than I could ever give you. Or see Apocalypse now again.

Its turning into a homogenization of culture. I went to Barcelona about a year and a half ago. I haven't done much travelling (Spain twice in ten years) (poor working class me) and the first think I saw as I came out of the train station was a huge Marks and Spencers. I sighed in utter disappointment. Capital knows no boundaries.

and you're right JC. This simple set of rules (reproduction, consummation, recycling) is what makes capitalism so resistant to it's opponents. Most of them don't realise they follow same basic patterns that actually make capitalism so "evil".

What the film?
I love talking about this stuff, and yes its difficult here. If you're ever in Wales I'll buy you a pint (of non-alcholic liquid) and we could talk properly.
I will investigate Baudrillard. I just wish I had more time to read. Damn you capitalism - you take all my time. Both working for you and fighting you.

I'm all for pooling of medical knowledge etc. but perhaps it would be better if art and architecture was kept a bit more segragationalist? I really like Parisian architecture and it'd be a shame to see it "Americanised".

Ugh, jonesy, I'm typing furiously here but still fail to catch up with you and JC (not a lot of work gets done here in my office). We first extract what are the basic features of capitalism (the VERY basic features of capital) and work the other way. These are the things we usually don't ever question because we think they are part of natural order of things. That Battailes' book I mentioned yesterday is a good one to read.

My father has a good analogy about "right" and "left"wing. He reckons that rather than being a line it's a circle, after a point, leftism becomes similair to fascism. You only have to look at russian "communism" and see how similair to Nazi Germany it is. And lefty "eco-terrorists" who kill people to draw attention to their cause.

Doing no work just skanks those who do and they work harder because they're proportionally poorer for supporting "non-workers".
I honestly can't see any viable way to fight capitalism, even if you have a street protest, you have to *buy* the loudspeakers, banners and markers.
I think you just have to resign yourself to the fact that you can't fight capitalism.

But people who go on the dole to "Fight Capitalism" just skank the working class. I saw a recent poster at my uni saying "capitalist students unite" non-payment of fees to build a better communist future. No, you'd just be ripping of the students who do pay.

Mate I finished uni last summer and paid a load of fees, despite the fact my parents are low-wage earners. If someone didn't pay I'd support them. It wouldn't have effected me. In fact it would have benefited me because someone would have been standing up to the government.
What makes you think there are people on the dole to fight capitalism?
A certain level of unemployment is necessary. The governor of the Bank of England is famously quoted as saying so. Capitalism needs a reserve army of labour to keep wages down. If there are less jobs they can pay us lower wages. Competition between workers is how the system survives, amongst other complex structures.

uH, i'M FALLING BEHIND MAJOR WAY.
Anyway, just in short: the common misconception about left and right is that left is nice and caring and right grim and aggressive. This is untrue, the defining feature of the left is its revoulutionary intentions (striving for change of things) and the defining feature of the right is its conservativism (striving to preserve current status). So, German Nazis were basicly a leftist party: their full name was National-socialist WORKERS party of germany.
I know, doing no work just fucks those who work.

I just find it totally funny that most of you are contemplating the point behind it all, so what if some of you think it was lame? I didnt, nor did my friends, are we immature all around and just fucks? No. Far from it. And none of you know me or my friends, so why try?
It was hilarious, and ofcourse we are going to get different responses, some people feel it in their power to, for some reason tell me or "us" why it wasnt "cool". But I tell them, dont bother, because I thought otherwise, so what your saying is just... filler.
Im sorry that this isnt something you would maybe do, but then why would you care? Do some of you have that close to no lives to actually try and figure out mine?

And its nothing beyond what it is. You can all SO easily sit there and think your some sort of socialite guru by telling each other that i was moronic, or a 13 year old lashing out, or angry at the world. Neither of those are true. I was having fun, so stop being so fucking uptight and live a little, oh wait - im so sorry getting out of your parents basements or your rooms is beyond comprehension.

And its SO funny how you can all sit here and say things like "what he did is so moronic" so this is fact? you all find it so? last time I checked someones opinion didnt constitute for a fact. Just stop talking about it like you have way too much time on your hands.
