"starless and bible black" and "Elektrik". they've always
sounded great when improvising/live.

I've done it for almost 2 weeks, although admittedly, it's
only 6 years or so that I've been listening to this sort of
music really regularly.

The main thing I found was that whilst I certainly don't
think all rock/indie is bad, even the really great stuff
isn't as good as the best IDM.

I also found I was writing acid lines for about 1/2 an hour
a day, using the 303 notes & USAD notation, in a notebook.
So I suppose that's cheating as I'm "listening in my head".

Incidentally, I hope this doesn't mean a campfire headphase
type shift towards "real instruments" for our very own
IDM-star dog_belch?

aah :D

starless and bible black is my favorite oldschool crimson
album! discipline would be my belew era choice. both eras
are fucking awesome, i just hope they're working on some new
stuff. have you got their "cirkus" 2cd?

me and dog_belch have already written 37 tunes with acoustic
guitars and violins under the new, collaborative guise
"Randy's Quickstop".

"cirkus" - no :) i can't remember what it is, a live old
tracks compilation ? ;]

i have tried a zillion times to get into the KC 80s but i
just can't get to like those albums. it's hard to choose one
fav cause apart from that 80s period i love all their stuff.
the poetic/jazz-rock 70s, the 90s with their "double-trio"
Vrooom and Thrak, live ProjeKcts [amazing set of live
improvisations]...and a very good come back with "the power
to believe". it's also Fripp's guitar, he's my fav
guitarist, i keep discovering his past collabs and guest
appearances [ FSOL etc. ]. He's great.

as for the new stuff....last week Fripp had a recording
session with Belew....it seems they're the only left members
of the previous KC incarnation - as for now. Fripp wrote
something about "new exciting music" in his diary.

for me it's really hard to compare sometimes. sure i prefer
electronic music [ and enjoy those little bits of electronic
drums in king crimson AD 2003 ] . but there are some
non-electronic albums which will always be classic and pwn
electronic ones for me. sometimes electronic music lacks the
spontaneous energy that a live guitar band can produce.

as for making electronic music, quite the same : i sometimes
miss playing/being in a band. playing together with people
feels great, doesn't it.

The electronic drums in the first track of Elektrik fit in
really well, true.
