old school greatness:

Suicide

Martin Rev and Alan Vega... oh fuck yeah... chugging old
school synth beats and oh my lord Alan Vega is a creepy
dude... his vocals are so damned amazing... supa old skool
synth-pop of the daring variety...

well okay: since we've brought up lightning bolt... how
about a nice and neat post that outlines all (or maybe just
lots) the bands who are part of the load/bulb records axis:

Lightning Bolt
Mindflayer
Forcefield
Kites
Noxagt
Sightings (!!!!!!)
Nautical Almanac
Pink & Brown

hmm, a bit like the strokes although their sound is more
retro...some people made comparisons to lynard
skynard...it's pretty soft stuff, but quite beautiful imo.

i'll try them out some time... right now i'm busy hearing
everything 2004 (their album is 03 isn't it?)... so i can
feel okay about doing a list for the radio before the end of
the year... but come new years... freedom again... yay

actually they just released a new album...they really
dislike them at pitchfork - you decide whether that's good
or bad :)

old time relijun- lost light

this band is fucking awesome... i'm not quite sure how i'd
describe them cause i don't really listen to much music like
this... it's sorta bluesy in the same way that the first
fiery furnaces album was... really earthy, rock with an
almost funk edge to it... but the singer is on crack or
something... he reminds me a bit of Captain Beefheart... and
they do have occasional free jazz moments... so yeah... i
dunno, you should try and hear it maybe... very awesome
poppy record

Lost Light... the review calls it "funk-punk"... if that
helps... (?)

bands that begin with "C" that are pretty much entirely
unrelated:

Climax Golden Twins
Caroliner
Chrome

hypnotic/psyhotic kinda music.

going to be more up to my taste :)

glad to see this thread back up here...

i gotta mention this wicked Japanese band from the 70s
called Brast Burn...their album Debon is just awesome, it
puts a lot of the more contemporary folky-psychy bands to
shame with its consistency... every time i hear it i have to
chant along with them...

This topic is good. I just got a weird kraut rock album a
while back that really stands out to me, Oktober- Uhrsprung.
Mid 70s overuse of moogs and synths with a really hyper
rythym section. Classical synth lines, jazzy drumming and a
funky vocalist. If anyone like kraut rock and synth prog, I
got it shared and stuff and I'm ghey 4 it.
