OS X Quartz rendering engine is based on Adobe PDF, not
OpenGL.

well as far as i understood, Quartz Extreme is based on
OpenGL

The primitives are PDF and some of the rendering is done
with OpenGL. Most people don't really care unless you have
to program with the stuff.

they've changed the Quartz page since I last visited, it's
on about PDF stuff

i love bourban biscuits

i love chocolate biscuits of all kinds!

except ones with nuts, or raisins, or things i don't like on
them

bourbans are wicked biscuits! I'm talking about bourban
jackets though. They are waxed covered, which means comfort
in those foul weather moments.

do that speed with your mac and it will fry.

oh and i use a mac at uni for genetics lessons and the only
thing i find cool is when you put the cursor to the top
right corner of the screen and the open windows go small and
you can pick the one you want from them.

I ALSO DEMAND A RIGHT CLICK!!!

only opened like nine web windows and the thing was dying on
me.

right now i have about 12 windows open and then winamp on my
win2k and it's about the same speed as when i have one
open.

only thing slowin me down now is my shitty connection which
i plan to upgrade in the next 6 months.

well thats funny, because i can be burning a cd in the
background, and still have enough system resources to do
whatever the hell i want to do, even start up reason and
mess about with meaty tracks

i have a 900MHz G3, 640MB RAM

not exactly mega spec machine (in Mac computing terms)

the thing is you have to go out of your way to install extra
shit on a macintosh to give it the variety that a pc comes
with already.

who the fuck NEEDS a gui interface rendered in real time?
personally, playing morrowind and deus ex 2 are much more
important to me than a transparent window. oooh.

and style xp bitch.

yeah right, and you don't have to do shitloads of installing
on a PC?

oooh what do you get with ANY version of windows, out of the
box? (and i don't mean when you get your machine from PC
World or some shit like that, i meana fresh install of
Windows)

you get MSPAINT and WORDPAD

big fucking deal

true you do call the only fault a pc has, can't burn while
doing other shit.

offline knobcheese from Perth (Australia) on 2004-02-27 14:38 [#01092045]
Points: 982 Status: Lurker

maybe i should get a mac to burn cd's and use my pc for
everything else,

but then that'd defeat the purpose cos i wouldn't be doing
anything else at the same time on the mac cos macs are
scary:

"you have to trick the computer into doing what you wanted
it to do"

Anyone have any info if Apple will be releasing new monitors
within the year. I'm looking to get one of those 23"
monitors but I'd rather have it match my G5. A nice brushed
metal look.

Whatever they all work the same.

Today I was using a 600 mb file in photoshop. Amazing what a
Mac can do in the workplace.

I might have to start a thread about this but.. could I do
some sort of realtime video effects with one of those?

that'd be sweet, nothing fancy mind you. just something to

if they've got enough RAM, and a decent graphics card in
them they should be capable i reckon

in college we had a beige G3 for video editing - had a S-VHS
machine hooked up to it so we could transfer from tape to
hard disk and vice versa

pretty cool too

i can't remember what software was running on it though,
it's been nearly two years since i was in college
