Got to agree with you on the driving thing.....

Here in Lithuania I've been totally shocked by the driving
standards...... people drive like total fucking psychos.
I've seen loads of accidents and even dead bodies in the
road, on two separate occasions (I'd never seen a dead body
before I came out here).

When I tell people here how crazy I think they are on the
roads, they're always really surprised. They say that when
they've visited other countries (Turkey and Spain for
example) it was much worse.

I think we British are, for whatever reason, just extremely
careful and polite drivers.

And, yes, the cars out here are generally pretty old and
badly maintained too, which probably makes it even more
dangerous. And very few people wear seatbelts. Most people
tell me it isn't even dangerous not to wear a seat belt in
the back of a car because if you're involved in an accident
the seats in front will protect you from injury.........!

I think the statistic I heard last was: out of 60 Greek hire
cars checked, 3 would have passed British MOT tests. Dunno
how familair you are with cars, but as one mechanic I spoke
to put, "An MOT used to mean something, nowadays a car has
to be a total death trap to fail..."

That's crazy...... I have been hiring a really old VW Passat
estate while I've been out here - with 300,000 km on the
clock. It's definitely a total frigging death trap, but
it's also cheap at about 10 pounds a day all-inclusive.
It's totally falling apart though, and I suspect that if I
had a hairy moment on the road in it I'd crash and probably
die. Ah, well.

You fuckers. I'm getting a panic attack now. I'm off to
Spain in two weeks and we've booked car hire. I WAS worried
about their driving but now I'm shittin it about the car.
