my impression of British people: - They like to constantly test eachother on how far they can go(to test someone's character)
- Most don't take themselves too seriously but the ones that do can be very arrogant and snobby(upper class/ political persons)
- They are very curious about other cultures - they're mad about football but also other sports that people in other countries aren't very interested in
- a lot of British people love to be a bit different than others.

What the feck is our 'funny little accent'? We have a horribly wide range of accents. I live in Leicestershire, smack bang in the middle of England. Our accent appears to be some descendant of cockney, but you travel a few miles to the west and you'll hit Birmingham and then the West Country, and half the time it's impossible to work out what the fuck they're talking about.
I don't like accents. Except some parts of Scottish and Welsh.

S'pose it's indicative of the cultural slide toward the pandering to the lowest common denominator. Oh well.
C'mon then. Condense what I said into three words. "and btw i don't want to arrgue about this." Surely it's obvious that if you start chucking the terms bullshit and shite about people's posts -- without provocation -- it'll inevitably decend into one? "i don't carre what you said." Yeah, OK.

On the plus side:
The vast majority of people are very honest when it comes to not ripping tourists (aside from Americans :P) off.
Our public health service is pretty good (comparatively speaking).
We are some of the safest and most courteous drivers in the world.
The average car on the road is incredibly safe compared to those of most countries (talking terms of maintenance rather than design here).
The Welsh flag is undeniably "the best" aside from perhaps the one in an african state that has a shield and spears on it.
Our country is one of the most racially tolerant.
Our (private) education system is of a very high standard.
There are very few guns on the street.
We have the best (modern) music in the world IMO.
We're a nation of hobbyists which makes for some pretty interesting conversations.
You're never too far from the sea so seafood and watersports are readily available.

"The vast majority of people are very honest when it comes to not ripping tourists (aside from Americans :P) off."
Vast majority? That's a bit of a subjective statement. I'd hazzard a guess that the vast majority of people in England don't come into contact with tourists, let alone have the opportunity to rip 'em off.
"Our public health service is pretty good (comparatively speaking)."
Compared with Iraq or Liberia maybe, but not compared with our EU partners, it aint. Longest waiting lists in EU. Lowest cancer survival rate in EU. For the amount of money we throw at the NHS it should be a friggin' lot better that it is. But we still spend less on the NHS (% of GDP) than the majority of EU.
"We are some of the safest and most courteous drivers in the world."
Yeah we got the lowest death rate on the roads... coz the roads are in constant jams and it's hard to die in a road crash when you're crawling at 10 mph.
"The average car on the road is incredibly safe compared to those of most countries (talking terms of maintenance rather than design here)."
Quite possibly. The cost of running a car is expensive compared to the rest of the world though. How much fuel tax do we pay?
"The Welsh flag is undeniably "the best" aside from perhaps the one in an african state that has a shield and spears on it."
S'pose the Welsh have to be the best at something. Flags? They can have that honour.
"Our country is one of the most racially tolerant."
Sure we don't go round in white pointy hats lynching people from Poplar trees, but as the BNP victories up North indicates, there's a lot of simmering tension. Don't forget it wasn't that long ago we had The Black Shirts and signs on pubs and guesthouses 'No Dogs. No Blacks.'
"Our (private) education system is of a very high standard."
Most private education systems are of a very high standard. But how many people does that effect? The rest of us plebs have to be content with a system that inflicts more tests

"Our (private) education system is of a very high standard."
Most private education systems are of a very high standard. But how many people does that effect? The rest of us plebs have to be content with a system that inflicts more tests on kids than any other country and yet still produces the figures that I stated earlier: 1/3 of adults are functionally illiterate and or innumerate.
"There are very few guns on the street."
At the moment, yeah. However gun crime is the fastest growing sector according to crime stats. There were 3 shootings around my area in the last couple of weeks but it mysteriously goes un-reported. Maybe coz it was black-on-black crime? The media don't really go for that.
"We have the best (modern) music in the world IMO."
Tell that to the Eurovision judges! ; ) Nah, we're in agremeent on this one. "We're a nation of hobbyists which makes for some pretty interesting conversations."
Have you ever been in converstion with a trainspotter?! Jesus!
Yeah, the eccentricity of the English is something to be proud of, although even that is beginning to be compromised with globalised culture turning us into homogenised consumer fodder.
"You're never too far from the sea so seafood and watersports are readily available."
And so are turds, sanitory towels and wotnot. We didn't get the label 'dirty man of europe' for nothing y'know.
Don't get me wrong, there are many things that we do and have done that we should be proud of, it's just that we could do a lot better if the country was run differently. A more equitable and just society is not an impossibility, provided we were given the chance.
I'm a dreamer, man.

"Vast majority? That's a bit of a subjective statement. I'd
hazzard a guess that the vast majority of people in England
don't come into contact with tourists, let alone have the opportunity to rip 'em off. "
Okay, if you want to get into sematics, "The vast majority of the people in the UK I have had first hand experience of that deal with tourists are very honest with them. They do not overcharge them at car parks, short change them at bars or restaurants. I honestly cannot think of a time when somewhere I have worked has been involved in overcharging tourists. I have worked in a pub, a hotel and football/rugby ground, all of which had a lot of dealing with tourists."
Compare the amount of short changing carried out by the Spanish and Greeks to Brits on holiday compared to them here...
"Compared with Iraq or Liberia maybe, but not compared with
our EU partners, it aint. Longest waiting lists in EU. Lowest cancer survival rate in EU. For the amount of money we throw at the NHS it should be a friggin' lot better that

"Yeah we got the lowest death rate on the roads... coz the roads are in constant jams and it's hard to die in a road crash when you're crawling at 10 mph."
No, because: a) Our tests are comparatively stringent/ b) We are, by neccessity a lot calmer when it comes to driving.
France has recently has a "drive more like the British" campaign....
"Quite possibly. The cost of running a car is expensive compared to the rest of the world though. How much fuel tax
do we pay?"
I fail to see what relevance that has to car safety. If anything, high fuel tax should mean we'd have less money to spend on car maintenance...
"Sure we don't go round in white pointy hats lynching people

it wasn't that long ago we had The Black Shirts and signs on

You forgot, "No Irish." Whilst there is certianly rascism here, it is negliginle compared to most countries. We have one of the most diverse and accepting cultures in the world.
"Most private education systems are of a very high standard.
But how many people does that effect? The rest of us plebs have to be content with a system that inflicts more tests"
Even among the private systems of other countries, ours excels... this is reflected in the high proportion of foreign students at Harrow, Eton etc.
This is relevant as it means our "elite" is of a high standard which benefits the populance in general- high quality MI agents, good businesses, etc.

Unfortunately, I think the bad image of the Brits abroad is partly due to cheap airlines. Before, only people with a certain class would travel as they were the only one to be able to afford it, the rest would go to Blackpool. Nowadays, they all go to Prague for their stag weekends and Greece or Spain on hols, and behave like they wouldn't even behave in Britain. Most of these people don't have a clue about other countries' customs and just think they can do whatever they want. It is degrading and reflect extremely badly on the image of Britain. I am not British, but have been living in London for the last eight years, and have been ashamed of what people get up to as shown on programs such as Ibiz Uncovered and so on. These people should be banned from travelling.

"Even among the private systems of other countries, ours excels... this is reflected in the high proportion of
foreign students at Harrow, Eton etc."
So even our own capable students don't get educated at our top institutions because the places are taken by foreigners?
"This is relevant as it means our "elite" is of a high standard which benefits the populance in general- high quality MI agents, good businesses, etc."
Make a few a the top succesful and the rest falls into place, eh? Nah, i don't by that Thatherite 'trickle-down' concept. That's whats fucked this country. 24 years of neo-liberal policies that has produced a rich/poor divide wider than pre-industrial revolution times. A guiding principle of the 'bottom-line' rules. The commercialisation of... well, nearly every fuckin' thing.
And our elites make good businessess? For directors and shareholders, sure. As I stated before, we have the longest working hours in the EU. We're not part of the european charter of fundamental rights which would grant UK workers rights that the rest of the continent enjoys. We have the lowest corporation tax in the West. Good for corporations but less tax in the coffers for health, education etc. etc.
Fuck the elites!
"b) We are, by neccessity a lot calmer when it comes to driving."
What do you mean by 'neccessity'? How do you draw that conclusion?

Again, that's subjective.
