I have to say though, I kept seeing Gandalf when Ian McKellan was speaking... this was a good movie, but it's not close to LOTR...

Yes, he was the one who offered to help wolverine, but wolverine told him to go with the kids.

I reckon that Professor X is the most powerful mutant. Yes?
So is that the creators saying that the mind is more powerful than any physical strength?

I reckon Xavier is the most powerful, but there are others that can mimic/control him (I won't give specifics away in case people haven't seen it) so perhaps they are "more powerful" despite their own powers not being as useful...

well, im thinking more from the comics...
magneto has given him a good thrashing once or twice...
the thing you have to take into account is that xavier has no physical strengths (obviously)...
and as far as his mind powers go... they aren't omnipotent. he can become drained more easily than alot of the other mutants can, because of the focus require to use his probing strengths.

I've not read loads of the comics, but I get the impression there is a lot more distrust/emnity between Magneto and Xavier in them than the film. In the films it seems like Xavier genuinely thinks he can change magneto...

well, there was a point where magneto was actually killed (sorta by wolverine; he was later brought back, of course). when he "died", xavier seemed fairly emotional about it. i kinda remember him even called him "old friend" or something similar. i think the hatred from magneto to charles runs DEEP... but, there is an aspect of the relationship that seems like when a child does bad just to get the attention of a parent. in a lot of ways, i think magneto wishes he could be as optimistic as charles.
in some ways, i COMPLETELY disagree with what i just said, too. there have been times he has showed EXTREME cruelty when the stakes were high/when he as close to his goals.

Saw it at el cine last night, was pretty good I have to say, the cynical part of me is sort of against it but, I thought it was a quality piece of entertainment. No effects in it looked tired or overdone, the plot was NOT tacked on like a lot of recent FX-bonanzas, nice consistant pace, good characters (although you would expect from a comic adaptation)...
8/10
