IDM and girls

yea i know.. the average idm user is neurotic enough w/o
blinding himself to girls who don't listen to idm (99% of
the datable population that is).

anyway, i was being a little harsh on idm in my example.
there are more unlistenable types of music, like noise and
such, and lots of very melodic and engaging idm music. it's
still, however, a poor idea to push idm on girls that we idm
fans wish to court, as we are rather blind to the fact that
most idm won't convert other people on the first listen.
perhaps we forget that even us "enlightened" members of the
male species probably didn't love it at the first listen
either. i also stick by what i've been saying all along. if
you play or lend some idm to a girl and she tells you it's
great, 9 out of 10 times she's just telling a white lie
because she doesn't want to upset you. she might not mind it
but it's dubious that she'd be converted so easily,
especially if she's accustomed to good old fashioned rock
'n' roll. and for the umpteenth time, check back with her in
a few months to see which idm cd's she's purchased on her
own if you really think she's become a fan of the genre.

Yes i know... i thought about that horoscope-line for a long
time... and i think it's for a large part completely true.
Before you've ever actually fallen in love, you already have
an idea in your head of what it's supposed to be like.

Just seems unhealthy to me. Especially considering how
Hollywood-movies don't always give a very realistic image of
romance :-/

"not only is idm not the best music in the world, it's one
of
the worst -- boring, pointless, and cold. "

I see it as totally the oppositee

Sophisticated, innovative and worm

"the average idm user is neurotic enough"

lol! That's more true than alot of us care to admit ;-)

But yeah, i really agree with that last post even more.
About it being a poor idea to push idm onto these girls... i
would go even one step further to you and say that maybe we
are even blind to the fact that there is a large chance they
won't like it at all... not on first listen, not on
second listen and not after a 100 listens either :-p

And also: if a girl that was special to me would give me a
mixtape that i didn't like... i would find it really hard to
tell her the truth that i hated it....
And if i would find 'her' music even remotely interesting, i
would probably tell her i loved it, thinking it'll probably
grow on me more later ;-)

Infact... the fact that i got it from such a girl would
probably really make me like it more! Just because it came
from her, and has all these associations and happy memories
attached to it... i wouldn't even have to pretend i liked
it.

So yes... i think your theory is pretty much correct...
girls 'll say they love it, but most of them will probably
just listen to it to please you :-/ In any case it's a bad
idea to try and persuade her into liking it. If she is truly
interested in it, she would probably just ask if you can let
her hear some of the music you're always listening to
anyway.

you mean fireflies? (feux-follets)

Do you have a site that displays more of your work? I would
love to see more of it :-) (or just the entire painting
instead of just this fragment, he).

The one before the last one you had (not the one previous to
this one, but before that... 3 avatars ago... lol, i can't
explain it at all :-p It was beautiful anyway!

and yet you continue to waste your time here ;-) Hehe...
well just like me actually. I've got lots of things to do...
and still i keep coming back to this board. And time does
fly by when i'm on here!

I made a storybook once :-) (i graduated with it from
artschool)... but now i can't find a publisher that wants to
publish it, hehe, so there you go. But it doesn't matter,
i'm still proud of it and i wouldn't change a single word in
it!

Anyway, i think i've made my point clear that i'm very
interested in your work, so i'll just leave at this for now,
can't wait to see the site when it's done!

Surrounder: I would like just to find a girl with which I
have an interest in common.
A girl with which I would enjoy conversation instead of
"just waiting my turn to speak".

I just asked this question because IDM and music in general
is one of my major interests, and I wanted to see if you
were having teh same problem =\

Maybe my problem is just that I am an immature, egocentric
little bastard ;)

"I would like just to find a girl with which I have an
interest in common.
A girl with which I would enjoy conversation instead of
"just waiting my turn to speak".
"

Eh? Isn't that what we all want? That sounds to me like a
normal relationship... i'd definitly want what you just
described :-)

Music is also very important to me... and ofcourse i would
also like to be able to share my feelings about that with my
girlfriend...

But i think relationships can work for different reasons...
not just because two people share exactly the same
interests.

If you're in a relationship, and you find yourself
frustrated by the fact your girlfriend doesn't like the same
music you like... there's probably just something wrong in
your relationship :-/

If you're truly in love with a girl (even if she likes R
Kelly, nelly or whatever else music you hate)... it won't
matter :-D You will find other things to talk about, and
just give each other the freedom to enjoy your own music.

Well... that is how i see it at the moment anyway. But maybe
what i just said is also part of some sort of idealistic
image of "relationship" i was taught by movies and books
:-(

I do recognize what you're saying, but i think the problem
isn't that these girls don't like idm. Probably you just
weren't right for each other... sadly you can't force these
things... no matter how badly you want it to work sometimes
:-/

2) their taste in music shouldn't be something that
influences your heart. it's a bonus, not a requirement.
