I never really listened to any rap, not liking what I'd been exposed to, but last semestre I took a class on epic literature that spent a lot of time explaining the evolution and traditions involved in rap music, and something of the history - from modern music back to tribal griots. I still can't say I really enjoy listening to it, but I can appreciate it as a form. I'd never taken the time to look at it as art.

You know, the truth is that the new Gangsta rappers doesn't seem to know what Hip-hop really is. They have New expensive cars, big houses, lots of money and lots of women in the videos. Whats that shit?
That just ain't hiphop!

why not? you don't have to be broke to rap, and you don't have to be a geek to make techno.

OMG, you're helpless, aren't you. All the knowledge you have on Hip-Hop comes from MTV and yet you think you even make sense. Dude, I will say this again, very slowly: by seeing representatives of some genre on MTV, you do not, I repeat, do not get the actual picture about the genre in question. Hell, not even the remote picture. Dude, Blink 182 and Green Day are MTV punk, so I guess the bands like Crass, Conflict or Dead Kennedys never made any difference, eh? Please, think.

eh.. you said "big ass BLACK chicks" and "BLACK dudes... covered with gold from top to bottom" making a generalization about ghetto videos. if you don't see the racism in this comment then...
you might not be racist but comments like these don't help to make you look otherwise.

titsworth, at least RDJ [] and venetian snares do something interesting with drum machines and sequencers. Do they make that 4/4 beat crap techno that lingers about? no. Apples and Oranges my friend.

thanks USACID, you just proved my point. within all genres (including hip-hop and electronica) there are the creative and innovative types, and there are those who make watered down music pander to the audience.

yea, and nelly is, like, my role model. his lyrics say everything i've ever wanted to express. "andale, andale, mama E.I. E.I. O.O." speaks miles about my zenlike mindstate.
