well, he's one of the few that could probably sell more than
he does..or perhaps that was just with analord..

You must have some atrocious stuff, but some hidden gems
that you have but will never hear...

well without sounding too fan boi, his music is so good that
he is able to sell it to comericials and his audience

not very many artists are able to sell music. i really do
think its shows how talented they are.

not really, My mate makes that type of music and it's mind
numbing. He'll make 40 D'n'B lite tracks, 20 trance songs
and a few hip hop tracks a week and he barely gets by. They
all lay there on a big data base that no one listens to
asking to be used.

well if its for money i guess its just like any other sales
job, you have to sell the music to complanies and customize
it and such, you really have to LOVE making music to make
music

"...if you personally like what I do and wish to continue
hearing more then the only way that will happen is if you
support it."

He will be incapable of producing music unless people pay
him lots of money for it?

Maybe I am biased here because I have never been that
impressed with his work and I have always got the impression
he is his own biggest fan (I might be wrong) much like
Richard Devine.

I talk to so many people on the internet with varying
opinions that I'll often get led back to something I already
have but haven't heard or neglected to give proper time and
thought to... that happens a lot, but you're right though, I
have a lot of stuff I don't even care for. But it's
harmless, the pros outweight the cons.

People that load up on .FLAC and lossless formats could
probably fill up a couple of terrabytes relatively quickly.
I'm happy with 192 kbs unless it's a personal favorite.

well, if he had to get a real job he'd probably be to wasted
to make music afterwards...and not just because he'd be
tired, a job sucks out your brain basically : )

i am a big fan of lossless stuff thats why i dont bother
with mp3 and the other digital compression formats - i am
just a snob like that - i can stand flac and wav if and only
if i cant find that real deal, if there is no flac, no wav
or no official release then i will have to get the mp3, but
i will buy it the first chance i find it.

Of course he'd be capable, but perhaps he has other
interests and avenues he would persue if his music doesn't
work out as a means of paying bills and lining his pockets,
maybe he wouldn't have a reason to bother releasing his
music to us. Maybe he wouldn't bother putting up a myspace,
wouldn't spam his stuff here. That's none of my business
though. I can't and won't speak for him, though, but neither
should you.

Yeah a lot of things change, most glaring ot me is that I
don't even listen to much ''rock'' now and back then it
comprised most of my collection. Although things go in
cycles and I'll get back into again.

I'm not speaking for him, but there is something a bit
suspect about anyone who sees the sharing of music they
create solely as a commercial venture.
Personally speaking it wouldn't arse me if he never released
again. In fact there are probably only about 7 or 8
artists/groups I am actually interested in hearing a new
release for, the rest I could take or leave.

"nyone who sees the sharing of music they create solely as a
commercial venture"

you picked that from his statement?

i find his music cheesy as well, but i still bought 3
records..not the new one though..as it's just more of the
same and that doesn't really interest me.

What do you find ''suspect'' about it, specifically?

I would hardly accuse him of being in it for the money, if
that's what you're implying (I'm not saying you are, just
trying to understand exactly where you're coming from).
Foley Room has little commercial potential and is quite a
departure from his previous work. There's no reason why a
guy like that shouldn't take the opportunities he's given to
make some money. Too bad everybody can't enjoy those
opportunities.

No it was a combination of the "...if you personally like
what I do and wish to continue hearing more then the only
way that will happen is if you support it." and Ophecks'
"...maybe he wouldn't have a reason to bother releasing his
music to us."

I'm not implying that Amon only creates music for commercial
reasons I'm just saying that if he does then it's a bit
shit.

In general I don't like the attitude of US music makers...I
think it is a cultural thing that is reflected in their
music. There are a few exceptions but mostly I prefer
listening to UK/European/Asian electronic music.

Because when anything it created specifically for commercial
reasons it tends to be "by numbers" whether intentionally or
unintentionally the artists seem to allow their judgment on
what they think their target audience wants to hear impact
the music they actually want to make and 9 times out of 10
the result is a bland album that doesn't satisfy anyone.

I agree, yeah. But I think regardless of whether or not you
enjoy his stuff, it would very hard to make a case that
Foley Room is that kind of music.

If he's being a bit greedy, he's being a bit human. Nobody
wants to see their meal ticket blow away in the wind. I
really don't see his art suffering for it, and find it very
hard to hold this against him. He made his case reasonably.
We're going to keep downloading his and everybody else's
music for free anyway.

My mate went to america last year and said that in new york
people are trading gigs of music like currency. Its about
music as an asset and not for listening pleasure.... Strange
times we live in.

All times are strange though i guess. Life is strange.
strange is normal. ahh my head.
