RdJ taking the piss?

It seems to me that old Rich, in his crazy Rich world,
doesn't seem bothered in any way whatsoever that he has a
large amount of people who are really keen on his music. Yet
he claims to have loads of really ahead of its time and
wicked music stored on his computer. Isn't it about time he
realeased something completely new and completely phat (and
I dont use that word often), with a cohevsive 'album feel'
to it, some indication that he actually cares- because we
do. Whilst drukqs has fantastic songs on it, the fact that
he was largely meeting contractual obligations is reflected
in its flow. Am I being insolent by saying that his fans
deserve a bit more (they bought him a bank, not to mention a
bloody tank).
Anyway, discuss this if you will- I just had to get that off
my chest.
Oh, and the moon on a stick would be nice too :)
*scuttles off soapbox*
Goodnight!

sure, it would be nice if he did, and most artists would do
jus that, but I think RDJ has already fairly well
established that he doesn't much care about his fans. Still,
we can hope...

i dunno, one would be a brown-noser by trying to please the
crowd. if one cares about how his/her SOUND, then it would
reflect in the music.

I'd love to hear his unreleased stuff, but it's up to him.
Maybe in time he'll put it out there, and I hope he does.
Let's hope he doesn't have a hard crash or something on his
computer drive...

Richard taking the piss is still better than 99.9999999% of
all artists. Maybe Drukqs isn't his best possible effort,
but it's still damn good. The guy is just too enigmatic,
it's so frustrating!!!! I kind of want another polished,
flowing album like I Care Because You Do.

Yeah I remeber he was talking about all those songs with him
and square pusher, there unreleased tracks on that mp3
player that he lost, and he was like there were hundreds of
unreleased tracks, id like to here just one, i wonder what
happend to that mp3 player, some teeny prob erased all of it
and but nsync or somthin on it, which would make richard
happy,

Of course we all want him to release stuff like the caustic
window album and whatever else he has that we havn't heard,
but ultimatly it is all his decision and I respect it either
way. It is his work, and it is his place to do whatever he
pleases with it, even though I'de love to get my hands on
some of it.

i'll bet anyone here cash, that that mp3 player did have
hundreds of songs on it- songs he already put out under one
name or another. it seems like the type of lie, that would
slip by, after all i never heard him say in an interview
that the mp3 player had NEW material on it, or at least that
it was all NEW material...
yep

Well if those songs are unreleased probably is because they
suck, they´re not good enough to his high standarts or
maybe his saving the really good ones to release a super
triple album.
Or he might be suffering an inspiring fase.

"Richard taking the piss is still better than 99.9999999% of

all artists" yeah thats right!

Stop bitching and enjoy Drukqs, make your own flowing track
list or whatever, put your fav tracks on one cd the drill
stuff and put the piano pieces togheter with some Satie,
Cage and Debussy tracks.

Hes not taking the piss, how the FUCK can u say that? (maybe
I got another Drukqs version with dope tracks).

and after you have washed off all the grime and dirt, there
is a fucking brilliant album of work there.

I'm glad everyone is getting the hang of drukqs....there's a
million different ways to play it...

Rich knows you're gonna MP3 it...

(Anyone tried mixing with it yet?...I'm thinking his recent
comments about playing Jungle beats under various classical
composers gives a lot away; a lot of those pianoy tracks
would works really well with loads of different beats...must
give this a try soon...)

Avril 14th follows the beat exact, not one tempo change in

Archrival- read my original post again- I can't be bothered
to again, but I don't believe you'll find me dissing the
individual tracks from drukqs. I have more of a problem with
its flow. Example: OK computer by Radiohead. Anyone here
that listens to Radiohead will appreciate with I'm saying
regarding its progression as an album- starts schizo,
becomes very dreary, builds to an exciting climax, explodes
(ooer), leaving you with beautiful serenity as the pieces
fall back towards earth.
As far as I'm concerned, icbyd is the only rdj album to
approach this, possibly due to the nature of the music
itself, but point in hand, more I think because of rdj's
unwillingness to compromise with the public who essentially
pay his bills in the first place.
As for suggesting different ways of listening to drukqs
(like I should have to anyway, for Christs sake), I've done
em all with some success. Having a big mp3 collection Is
really useful for things that don't quite work as albums. I
just don't see why my purchase of Debussy's 'La Mer' should
be entirely necessary to enjoy aphex twin.
An album is more than the sum of it's parts.
Listening to drukqs in entirety detracts from the album
experience for me- every now and then I hear a song and
think 'Rich, you're so good but your'e SO far up your own
arse', and I find it a sour truth. I guess being original is
important though, as I'm sure was not being sued for failing
to meet contractual agreements :)

Yeah, I agree with Cortex and whoever else doubted that RDJ
has thousands of brilliant unreleased tracks. There are
quite a few of his released tracks which are pretty rubbish
(eg, AB4), and I can't see why he'd release them if he had
so much brilliant material stashed away.

I dont give a flying fuck about a albums flow if u aint got
strong tracks. I can make weak tracks and make it flow,
SO!?

RDJ made dope tracks, thats what makes sense.

I actually don't listen to albums as ''albums'' anyway... I
usually only listen to my favorite tracks, and I'm done.
Usually. I NEVER listen to Dark Side of the Moon start to
finish, and all I hear from people is ''oh, you HAVE to hear
it all in one sitting, have to hear it as an ALBUM'', but I
don't really give a fuck. I just want to listen to my
favorite tracks. Same with the Wall, even.

And same with Drukqs! I never listen to it in order. I
bounce around the songs, never listening to them in the same
way. Just whatever I feel like hearing, and I'll skip to
that track. Never cared much for ''concept'' albums, or
listening to something all at once, in order.

offline Omneignotumus on 2002-03-19 18:15 [#00131382]

I find the 'flow' of drukqs, as you call it, to be perfect
the way that it is presented. I wouldn't rearrange the
garden of earthly delights because I like to look at hell
first; that would be altering the artisit's statement.

offline Omneignotumus on 2002-03-19 18:18 [#00131387]

I am into albums as a whole as well as the tracks
themselves. I think that its interesting to create a
relationship among the individual songs, like chapters. I
liked what Satriani did with putting his tracks in ascending
keys to have an uplifting under-current.

Ophecks: Thats my WORD!! Ophecs always on POINT!!! Exactly
why waste your ("precious" I hope) time listen to the weak

ok some tracks can grow on ya (after multiple listens) but I
hear when a track can grow on ya.

Yup, I guess we're musical soulmates. :-)

Maybe I have a short attention span... most albums have too
many flaws, I can't stand listening to the weak spots when
there's so much great music to hear! Too little time to hear
anything but the best stuff, methinks. I don't care about
the artist's vision, really... they could have arranged
their albums in ANY order, it's all the same. Make an album
with one track to be SURE they listen to it all at once! Of
course, I'd probably just skip over the weak parts. Like I
do with Shine on You Crazy Diamond, I'm ashamed to say. :-(
That track gets boring. Wankers.

Don't you like contrast? Frosting with cake. The only tracks
I ever occasionally skip when listening are my favorites,
which I don't want to become too acquainted with such that
the suprise is ruined.

I think that in some cases, the arrangement of tracks can be
as significant a statement as the tracks themselves.

Make some kind of effort to read my argument properly- I'm
not dissing the individual tracks!!! My only major critisism
of drukqs is as an album. The order and flow of it seems
nonsensicle (sp?) to me, that's what I'm getting at.
I guess that to a certain extent, great _albums_ are more
difficult to create in Rich's area of music, possibly due in
no small part to the prolific nature of the way he works.
Sit bands like floyd/radiohead in a studio, with several
minds all in the same ballpark and you get a more themed
result- floyd being the best example with albums like
animals and dark side of the moon having recurring themes. I
love the way dark side of the moon goes 'full circle',
ending on eclipse to tie the whole thing up as a longer
listening experience. I've taken off my headphones at 4am
many a time wondering where exactly I've been for the last
hour because of that album.
I would conceed that expecting rdj to produce this kind of
thing would be asking him to change the way he makes his
music, pure and simple. Thinking about it, drukqs's failure
to comply to any guidlines is part of its austere charm.
It's just that imo, one of icbyd's strong points was the way
it started pretty chilled, went onto the harsher stuff and
let you down on a parachute with the more mellow stuff at
the end. Makes me want to add the whole album to the
playlist. Drukqs doesn't have that effect on me and as such
fell short of the classic status in my head. AS AN ALBUM!

ophecks:
when you watch a really good film and months later, you
watch for a 2nd time, do you skip the parts that didnt grab
your attention the 1rst time? to me, listening to an album
is an experience comparable to watching a film.

-------

the problem with drukqs is, to me, that it feels more like a
compilation tthan an actual album (as it's been said by many
people on this board).

my favorite artists at the moment are autechre. i love
basically all of their releases. ive made some compilations
of tracks from all their releases, wich, logically, would
have to be extremely good. however, i listen to these
compilations i make for a brief amount of time and get bored
with them. why? probably because they do not sound like an
album.

that's the problem with drukqs, at least for me. anyone
understand what i mean?
