are they still available? where they good?
with an sl1200mk2 plate... is it bad if the plate stops entirely while motor is turning? (as in when you dj, you stop the vinyl, but if you press too much the plate stops also)

they're pretty good actually. i thought they were going to be rather crap, but no. having butter rugs didnt actually make them worse either, but that's something you dont need to consider.
you can wreck the motor if you make the platter stop. that's the reason why they invented slipmats

the engine in the 1200s is actually very weak indeed - altogether with just 8 % pitch it's still a riddle for me why they are still considered being the standard. but thinking of reliability there is probably nothing to compete with.
as i said above, the engine is quite weak. but still there are a few things to get rid of this:
first - never actually completely stop the vinyl - when you have found the beat that you want to beatmatch just push the vinyl back and forth like you would scratch it - the friction is lower and the platter won't stop.
second - you can add something beneath the slipmat so it will be more slip. professional "scratch" slipmats come with an extra foil that you put under the slipmat on the platter so it's more slippy. you can also make your own custom foil - the best thing i found (a friend recommended it) is a foil cut out of a roentgen picture - no kidding - i had some old roentgens of my chest and with this under my slipmat i'm even able to scratch on my old telefunken turntable which engine is much worse than a technics one.

not the best slipmat in the world will still allow the plate spinning if you put push too hard on it, if that's the case I think it's time to rethink the way you're treating your deck and/or your records. I can't think of any reason why you should make the platter stop if you're only using it for listening, unless you are attempting the cylob one-deck mixing. if you want it to stop so badly, you can use the start/stop button, or kill the power to make that slowed down finale.

its not that I want to stop it, its that it stops whenever I do some scratching
why do I scratch? not fo djing just for fun, at home... for learning I guess

Hey Nacho! Leave the rubber plate where it was, dude... never heard about takin' that out...
The best u can do is put something between that rubber plate and the slipmat as Sadist says.
Also, to check if the ttable is fucked, take a look at the dots in the strobe light. If they still "static", it's turning stable at the right speed.
Anyway, I'm also a noob dj, so maybe I'm wrong!

that rubber mat shouldn't on there if you have a slipmat. if you really want to, you could use it for a frisbee
