and other "media library" software don't mean to be offensive, but WHY THE FUCK DO PEOPLE BOTHER WITH THIS SHIT?
people are always moaning about how it fucks up and fails to connect to devices etc - why not just keep your mp3/wma/whatever files properly named and organised into files? then you know where they are and don't have to rely on some pointless program to find and play them.
and when it comes to putting tracks on your mp3 player or whatever - just fucking drag and drop it! no problems at all then.
back to basics, people!

I previously used Winamp, and opened files whenever I wanted to listen to them. Locating and browsing music goes 10 times faster now that I use the iTunes library with proper tags. Searching, browsing and playlist compiling is also much easier.

Yeah I just sort of have a ton of folders, and when I want to listen to an album, I right click on its respective folder and ''enqueue in Winamp'', takes 2 seconds and I only have to do it every, say, 50-60 minutes. I can see the advantages of a playlist library though, but I've never felt the need to bother. I have lots of fun browsing my folders and right-clicking on them.

I find that letting software do routine operations that it can do faster and easier than me is a viable use of my computing device, its never gone wrong. and besides you can't drag and drop mp3s onto your iPod. good rant though, liked the caps

iTunes is a festering pile of shit of a program. Locks up my CPU whenever I open it.

yes! if you cant just drag and drop onto an ipod, and if you cant connect more than one to a computer or whatever, and they keep fucking up, then why bother? gggrrrrrr.

Winamp + common sense is all that is needed.
FB2K is acceptable too.
iTunes is for phaggot kids like the one in my avatar. Do you really want to be like him? Ask yourself.

My dad always uses software that comes with devices for scanners/cameras/etc.
He reckons they're better because they're easier to learn. I have tried pointing out to him literally dozens of times that although it might be slightly harder to learn how to do it through explorer the first time, at least that is a constant, transferable skill. IE if he learns that, he can use it on any device and doesn't need to learn a new program each time he changes his camera or whatever. That's before we even come to the file management and software-caused bugs. We actually had a fairly big falling out when I refused to help him with a problem one had caused because I was sick of fixing them (all due to an awful Kodak program he insisted on using).
As an aside, it's rare for me to have any use for a playlist, other than to have all the tracks in a mixed compilation play at once. For me, one of the main reasons for playing music on mp3 rather than CD is the ease of picking the tracks I want to hear there and then, quickly and without having to change CD. I rarely want to listen to the exact same set of tracks twice, unless it's an album, a mixed compilation, or I'm working on a mix myself.

Never mind how bloated they are. The driver minimum install on my printer is 300mb. How much can there be to printing and scanning? Takes the piss.

Yes, exactly. I hate operationalizing each and every mouse click and menu choice for someone I'm helping. Though it seems many are incapable - probably out of fear - of learning the general ideas underlying this or that bit of custom shitware.
