hmmm I don't think MBV are any more united than the last 15
yrs... kevin sheilds just said that there would be an album,
eventually.

Jesus and Mary Chain, though!

Does anyone beleive that RATM, SP or MBV anno 2007 can
deliver like they used to? I don't

List your three favourite "ground-braking rockband decides
to re-unite in their chubby mid-30ies cause they're bored"
that has been any good?

well, i thought the last albums by both ratm (battle of los
angeles) and pumpkins (machina) were their best efforts. So
yes.

Ok. That's like saying that there is no such thing as
gravity, but ok. "Taste is like the butt" like we say in
Norway.

Battle of LA was actually pretty good. But RATM released
another album after that, didn't they?

Not rock nor mid-30ies, but for example, the Velvet
Underground reunion for their show at the Olympia Theater,
Paris, France on June 15-17, 1993, was quite awesome IMO...

Rage Against the Machine's Rage Against the Machine is the
album that turned me on to music. It's in my all-time top 5.

two, but they werent studio albums written by the band.
The first was a covers album, the second was a live album.
If you want to be fussy, then pumpkins have released at
least 3 albums since machina, but the same thing applies.

Well. If RATM release a halv-decent record, I don't care,
but if SP, one of my all-time favourite bands, makes an ass
out of themselves, I will be MAD!

i've heard that the Jesus & Mary Chain were also
reforming...

i'm not too enthusiastic about this. i only have one Jesus &
Mary Chain album (which i like very much) and one by My
Bloody Valentine (which is ok) so i won't venture to say
anything about them, but i do fear about the Rage Against
The Machine and Smashing Pumpkins reformations. especially
for the Smashing Pumpkins - there are plenty of reasons to
be worried.

Points: 12878 Status: Addict | Followup to aphextriplet: #02038306

really? i really didn't like machina at all. the production
on it was awful and the songs were really poor, especially
when compared to siamese dream, MCIS or Pisces Iscariot.

they're probably my favourite rock band ever, so, like uzim,
i'm not feeling 100% great about this.. i mean it'd be great
to see "them" (it'll be without darcy of course) play live,
but if they put out an album, i think it'll probably be
crud, given the quality of their last album as the pumpkins
and corgan's solo work.

aphextriplet, do you have Billy's Gravity Demos? they're a
must-have, probably the stuff by them i still listen to the
most. really high-quality demos -- there's a remastered
version that i have that's absolutely perfect -- and contain
many of the full versions of the snippets that appear in the
pistachio medley from the ZERO ep.

if you want, i'll upload it for you.

Billy is a very talented guy but he's also a flaky weirdo.
I'm very interested to see how this turns out. It could wail
or fail.

RATM and MBV are less versatile and I can't imagine them
doing anything interesting, so I dunnooo... I loved their
old stuff and never wanted anything more.

i don't. I'd love that, thanks.

My fav stuff is on aadore - but only when it's played live.

Daphne Descends live blew me away on jool holland, as did
ava adore. Great stuff.

I really, really like machina. Maybe it was a time and a
place album for me, but i loved it. I hate that i never
listen to melancholy just because it's recorded so damn
quietly.

One day i'll do my own remastering to get it up to a half
decent volume.

"the production on it was awful"

> i still find the sound on Machina to be a real improvement
compared to the butch(vig)ered, over-compressed sound of the
previous albums... (it's pretty much the only thing i don't
like about them)

Wow. I figured xlt would appreciate MBV more than this
thread seems to indicate. MBV's Loveless is a far greater
album than anything SP or RATM have put out, and I'm a
rather big fan of the Pumpkins. Loveless is a classic.
Something any Fennesz fan should pick up. Something anyone
here should pick up,really.

MBV would be far better appreciated if everyone bought
"Isn't Anything" rather than the not quite as good follow up
"Loveless".

MBV and Loveless has been discussed many times on the mb.
Only Shallow is maybe the best opening track in the history
of music. Yes, I said "the history of music".

bell curve EQ to the extremes.

'isn't anything' definitely takes more listens.

Hey, I agree with you about Isn't Anything! ^_^

But yeah, since then Kevin Shields has done nothing to move
or interest or surprise me, so unremarkable his latter-day
contributions have been that I wouldn't even know it was
him
if I hadn't read it somewhere, so I guess I don't find his
work very ear-catching or his skills very far reaching. So
I'm not psyched for a new MBV. Ut oh!

If the MBV album comes out before 2010 I will be surprised,
frankly... there really isn't anything to suggest this year
will hold anything new for them.

yeah i'll upload that tonight.

as for the production.. i don't know - if you look at a
graphical equiliser while playing machina, it's just maxxed
out.. insane. i thought it just sounded plain noisy and
distorted..

mellon collie too quiet? then turn it up full volume.. :)

OK,

instead of uploading it myself - i've just found out that
the NSPAA (new smashing pumpkins audio archive) has been
reborn as the RSPAA.

it is available here.

The gravity demos are in Demos - you might want to do some
hiss reduction on them just to make them a bit more
listenable. They're far better versions of the demos than
were available a few years back.

This is a great site. I downloaded ~200 bootlegs over a 56k
connection when I was a young teenager.. madness..

enjoy, and treat the site with respect.
