anybody else having this problem?
i can't start itunes without it immediately swallowing up all my resources. is there any way around this apart from waiting for a fix?

I still like good old Winamp with one of the old school skins, like steel this amp, that doesn't suck up resources.

I got an iPod before there were winamp plugins for transferring music to and from ipods.
I hate it.
The only thing is, I can't go back, since my music collection is now no where near as meticulously organised as it used to be. The only kind of mp3 player that would be suitable would be one that has a "library" rendered from ID3 tags, has support for importing itunes XML libraries (so I don't have to "rate" my music all over again) and whose library doesn't function badly when faced with a huge mp3 collection (iTunes actually fares better and faster than winamp's library does).
To add insult to injury, my ipod is, of course, dead. :/

when i said "I hate it", i meant "I hate iTunes".
it runs beautifully on OS X though.. they just don't put near enough work into their windows ports

Yeah, the windows port is incredibly shoddy. Bloated to the max, it really shows its limitations when put next to winamp and foobar2k.
I'm sure some decent MP3 organising tools exist on the PC by the way. I could probably do with one too, though my current "organised chaos" method seems to work perfectly in some sadistic way.

Thanks, but it's accessing them from across a 100mbit network.
Just finished adding my mp3s to foobar.. it's using 50MB of memory, more than i thought it'd use but certainly a hell of a lot less than itunes. we'll see how it performs in day to day use.

urgh. ~7 seconds per search of the albumlist.. even worse than winamp..
i think i'll try to find a way to fix my itunes.. say what you will, but it performs far better than foo and winamp with a large collection of mp3s.

this is actually really, really great. I was just using the wrong "list", which is why it was taking so long to do searches.
this is lovely stuff.
can anybody answer a few questions on its ID3 tagging stuff? I've got it to download ID3 tags for an album, and apply them.. But nothing happened - even after I told it to "Reload info from files".
Any ideas?
Also, is there an ID3 editor (like winamp's)? I can't find a way to get to one

why even catalogue your music in a library? organise it in folders. its not that hard.
and why rate tracks? surely you know how good each song is without having to be reminded every time you run the program

I never really thought that having the albums organized like they are was very usefull either, but it has its purposes, like being able to select all songs by an artist, so it will even grab stuff in compolations and play them in the same playlist, and other stuff like that. The kind of things you wouldn't realy find usefull until you had them.
