Yep.
A lot of the creative electronic stuff has migrated from IDM into house, hip hop and mainstream pop music. It's just there, everywhere, and ubiquitous. And those genres feed back into "electronic" styles.
That's a good thing! Keeping its bloodline pure like European royalty makes it pale, chinless and anaemic. Mongrel bastard musics are always going to be more vital and healthy.

it isn't dying, but i think people in general aren't satisfied with some weird sounds put together..they look for something more, which is nice. artists will have to put more work and imagination into it if they want to stand out somehow.

Main problem is it's gone back underground and everyone is wondering when the next guy with something of a personality is going to come along - the next Aphex Twin, not in terms of musical ability but jesus, at least in terms of having a sense of humor, and hopefully a better one than him.
Even Moby would be a welcome return. Save us, Moby! We need your weenie insights as a religious vegan celebrity or whatever.

Electronic music is like movies.
We have just learned how to make all of these crazy special effects, so we made a bunch of movies that were just scenes of various shit blowing up. Then this gets old, but we don't know what kind of movies to make now, because we still want to be able to blow shit up, but realize we need something more.
Like that. There have been a few good ideas, but none have really taken hold.

In 1992 The New Fast Automatic Daffodils asked How Much Longer Must We Tolerate Mass Culture? The answer was about 15 years, because popular cutlure is grinding to a halt, possibly to be replaced by a combination of drugs and videogames to make everyone shut up. Have you seen how they're getting old people into videogames now on the pretext it combats Alzheimers. BULLSHIT, it's social conditioning for the near future. Electronic music, who gives a rat's tit?

electronic music is in a beatiful moment right now - because everything has been said and done already so now instead of coming up with something new, the thing is to look back, take the best out of electornic history and make something out of it.
