TOM WAITS - ORPHANS

Tom is in good form and releasing a 3 CD set called
Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers and Bastards! YAY!

From Anti.com:

“Brawlers” is chock full of raucous blues and
full-throated juke joint stomp, “Bawlers” contains
Celtic and country ballads, waltzes, lullabies, piano and
classic lyrical Waits’ songs, while “Bastards” is
filled with experimental music and strange tales.

Sounds like more Waits goodness to me. Some tunes are covers
and for film-projects etc., but there will be 30 new
recordings out of 54 total tracks, so there's plenty of
stuff to be surprised by.

128kbit MP3 of new track "Bottom of the World"

More info on Anti's websites

I'm excited because I like his music.

read about this a while back on pitchforkmedia, of all
places.

it sounds like it'll be good. and expensive.

yeah, a 90+ page booklet and three discs with some
(undoubtedly) fancy packaging that will break in under a
year. it's gonna be a costy affair for sure.

yeah, could be, 3 cds of material is very ambitious, but
there will probably be enough goodies on each disc to at
least fill up one disc of greats.

i've only listened to the first cd so far but I think this
could be his best release for a long time, i'd say its much
better than Real Gone, his last one. Some killer tracks on
there, been listening to it constantly in the car. Its so
good i might even buy it ;)

offline Vin3islih from United Kingdom on 2006-10-25 14:53 [#01992564]

the second is more love song orientated, a bit like his
earliest albums like Blue Valentine or something. So I
don't like quiet as much as the groovy, rawness of the first
cd. The third cd I haven't heard yet, but it's supposed to
be experimental and fucked up, more along the lines of his
best albums.

my dad bought it before me

but he got a 10" with it that I got because he'd never play
it anyway...

it made me wonder, though.. is this a cd release only?

It'd be awesome having it as vinyl, but I bet it'd cost huge
amounts of money and be.. rather large...
