Why the hell is this so watchable? It should be shit!

I love it. It's funny how all the investors have to act
really hardnosed, whether it's the appropriate response or
not. There's loads of managers in my office like that. It's
funny when they goes nuts and complain about something, and
then it turns out it's their fault.
It just cracks me up.

it's great. I came across one of the programmes during the
first series and immediately watched the whole thing.

it's an adrenaline thing, I guess. seeing people sweat.

and to be fair, some people are really bad at pitching their
idea. if the idea itself is then also shit - good
television.

Use that as your idea!

I'm here to sell my brain as a vessel for your ideas. I'm
looking for a £150,000 investment with me retaining 100%
ownership of the brain but with you using it's full capacity
over a period of 3 years.

it's watchable because the focus of the programme is
rejecting people and crushing their dreams

on there.

it is compelling, and yeah, its like, you feel cheap but
watch it anyway. i quite enjoy it actually, seeing all these
inventions that will never be.

and yes, hearing somones dreams be dashed in one swift move.
and then hearing they've invested their kids college funds
in it. harsh i guess...

well, they're investors, they don't care about dreams, they
care about making a profit. they love ambition, but even
then it has to be backed up with numbers.

if they get as much as a whiff that you're not about making
as much money as could forcibly be possible, you're dead.

that's harsh and possibly depressing, but then you know that
if you go to ask for money from them.

yeah totally, its business, its capitalism. i disagree
though, i dunno how much you've watched, but some people on
there are so cluelessly naive that its shocking. i saw this
woman on there once who had invested about £10k in kids
branded underware stock, which wasn't quality controlled,
not tested the market, not found a supplier, or even a place
to store the stock. she was in hysterics.

I have seen pretty much all of them by now, I think. I
remember her - she was kind of pathetic, but then I don't
really feel sorry for her when people tell her she's being
pathetic. it's a slap in the face, but people like her could
benefit from it.

that makes me sound as if I'm all for this kind of
business-y hard ass bullshit. I hate all of that, I would
rather die than do a pitch for those people.

but it works within the context of the programme.

i cant stand it, I just cant stomach the way the dress up
these people , who are quite clearly cunts, in smart clothes
and give them big chairs and seat them behind stacks of
money and basically go to many lengths to make them seem
better than the rest of us, and encourage them to make
personal attacks on people based on little to nothing. i
find it infuriating

i dont see whay people feel guilty watching this. if you
have a shit idea at least you were lucky enough to be told
to stop doing it before you go bankrupt. those guys know the
score.

I don't see why you'd feel guilty, either. there are no
hidden agenda's here, it seems.

I love how they turn down some decent ideas by people who
would patently work their nuts off for less than minimum
wqage in order to make the business work and then 5 minutes
later back a doomed company; someone with a shit idea who
clearly hasn't even been arsed to prepare for the
presentation and is unlikely to bother to get out of bed in
the morning.

Applicants wise, I like the salesmen-types who have shit,
technically flawed ideas and have simply hope to manage to
bamboozle the dragons into backing it, purely through sales
technique and blinding them with jargon.

Another good one was a bloke who reckoned he'd invented an
alternative the the internal combustion engine, which was 3
times as efficient, but just needed £20k to make another
prototype. He got pwned when one of the dragons pointed out
that he had a degree in mechanical engineering and that the
guy's idea could never be reliable enough to work in the
real world.

As you say, one of those things that should be shit, but

One fella made laptops with wooden casing instead of
plastic.
He went on about how classy and stylish they were and how
they'd be the next craze in computing, but his prototype
looked like a GCSE woodwork product, so funny.

I totally missed the first series so it'll be good to see it
from the start.
