- dark-paranoic ambiance

- crunchy-synthetic beats

- etc

sometimes is hard to find new original artists in sounding
therms, more than in structural or progression thingies...

is that true? do you feel the same?

Someone makes music and others like it, some of those others
might make music themselves and are inspired to emulate. The
people who liked the first music also stand a fair chance of
liking the wannabe and some of those might be inspired to
make something similar, and so on.

Electronic music probably suffers from this more than most
as it's pretty easy (cheap) to make.

I think misery is overrated in music, considered to be deep
when often it's just teenage style navel gazing.
Hence the popularity of Radiohead....

80% of electronic music is done on electronics so it all
sounds the same. I only listen to music which can be played
on a kerosene turntable at 78rpm and that beats electronics
for sure.

because out of 100 persons, only 20 have a special point of
view. it's the same for any genre.

I think it's because generally synthesizers are difficult to
operate, let alone use expressively, people start to follow
the examples

each one places the limit according to his expectations and
open-mindness. i'm not saying there are 20% of geniuses out
there. only people who have a little special
something.

Nah...it's because people have mastered the technical side,
it makes it easier for them to follow the pack. If you
listen to some early house and techno, those fellas were
working with very basic equipment and fucking with it to
break rules.

ATENTION! if you think the the problem is in the music
makers you are WRONG! the problem is in the music listeners.
they are 80% bad are want to listen only what they are used
too.

offline stefano_azevedo from Pindorama (Brazil) on 2006-08-04 18:56 [#01948914]

and is pretty ingenuous think music is bad because the DJs
cant learn how to use synths etc. they just dont want to
learn because it wouldnt make money because there are too
few people to consume good music.

mm

i think dubstep si the most stagnant style of music to come
out in a while. and rather then:

- dark-paranoic ambiance

- crunchy-synthetic beats

its:

- wobbly bassline on every track

- general midi beats

yaay lfos are awsome, and so is bass maximiser!
wowowowo boomboom wowowo boomtish crack crakc crak etc etc

Yeah, but what you've got to understand with all that
halfstep/dubstep stuff is that complexity and busyness have
been done to death, so those fellas are making it a bit more
minimal.
If you want to judge music solely on how "mad" or complex it
is listen to Venetian Snares.
I guarantee that electronica artists are gonna get into
this, because the whole Amen breaks/busy sound is over, that
moment passed a long time ago.
