being a beck fan before aphex twin, i was kinda familiar
with this track as a wee lad. kinda hated it.
but now that im ze official #1 aphex twin fanboi, i kinda
like this song,... if it wasnt the pitched shifted vocals.

if ignore them and focus on the music, theres a really cool
song under there, (kinda reminds me of pilot wings on
snes).

an instrumental would be nice, but probaly impossible from
the song alone...

what you think of this.. this... remix.

Is it just me or does it sound poorly produced, dull like
it's mastered from a very old, cheap cassette.

hmm, i dunno, but another thing is, the vocals seem out of
time..
i'm quite positive, if it wasnt for the vocals, the song
would sound clean, and it would be a fan favourite amongst
aphex twin fans all over the globe... maybe

not as good as the original beck track.
not as good as what aphex twin usually does, either.

unreleased cornish acid with beck acapella half-assed
dropped in.

probably done in one take for about $8,000-$10,000

love the aphex track. the beck remix version gets on my
nerves though. particularly when the vocals seem to drift
during the cymbal-ride/breakdown..

theres a beck page about the song...

Interestingly, in an interview in October/November, 1996,
James said this: "I only call remixing work?if I don't want
to do it. I turned down a Beck remix the other day for
£5,000 because it was doing my head in." A month later
though, things have changed. An interview with Disquiet.com
on December 24, 1996 began by James sayin he was just
working on "That 'Devils Haircut' thing." The interviewer
says he loves the song, and James explains his initial
ambivalence, "I did the mix ages ago, but, um, I didn't like
it. I thought I was just doing it for the money. But when I
chilled out and listened to it about a week later, I really
loved . . . I really liked it."

i think it sounds like it was made in floops with about a
million distortion and delay units

if he really loved . . . liked it, then i wonder why it
didn't appear on 26 mixes.

what i'm looking for right now is the alternate version of
'thunder peel' that was playing on beck.com some time ago...
not the version on stereopathetic soulmanure, a longer one,
recorded afterwards...

when he said he loved.. he thought of the song, then he
remembered the annoying high pitched out of time singing and
corrected himself saying he liked it.

The only way the track really reaches its potentitial is if
I use Ableton Live craxx0r3d version to shoehorn a Beach
Boys track into it, then the magic becomes apparent.

but you're right about the "production", there's lots of top
