we're just looking for meaning

im sitting here listening to tunes, thinking i am hearing
emotional meanings and messages in the chords and beats... i
dont think there is any. i doubt the artist intended for me
to pick up these messages. its purely an interpretation from
myself. its just something beautiful. there is the heavy
inclination for a human to want to attach itself to
something it thinks is beautiful and meaningful to them, and
it will search for further meaning within that thing.

its not very different from knowing a really beautiful
woman, and wanting to be inside her. i'm led to believe that
it's the primordial feeling.. feeling incomplete. looking
for completion in things. thats all we are doing. isnt it?

this also explains why guys who have girlfriends tend to be
less annoying than guys who don't

or dudes whove got a project going versus dudes who aint got
no inspiration and r looking for something to latch onto

its all the same shit

that's not all, but yes. we look for completion.

that's not all, but yes. we look for
completion.

what else is there. you perform basic functions... maintain
your 'self', hygiene (showering, toothbrushing), eat, sleep,
work so you can make money to continue basic functions

anything besides that, what is it if not a search for
completion?

offline obara from Utrecht on 2006-01-13 05:35 [#01817818]

let's focus on the fact we try to create. e.g. create music.
apart from that everything is starless and bible black.

= it's true, we search for completion. but fuck that.
thinking too much can do you no good. sooner or later you
come to the point : life is pointless after all.

btw you must've been listening to the wrong music while
stoned or something, why all those thoughts ??

"In my experience, there's been loads of open-minded people
and then it's been quite odd. 'Cause I think our audiences
out there have been quite mixed: there've been like a
combination of intellectuals, really spaced out kids, and
hip-hop types — you know, moody sort of party people."

You know where you belong.

music contains no information except the sound itself.

anything else is inferred by the listener.

fat beats REQUIRE EMOTION INPUT

DOES NOT OUTPUT EMOTION

IDM typically has two emotional meanings:

1) I wish I was 8 years old again
2) #BEEP #BEEP I AM SPAZ-TIK RO-BOT

it is not so much finding emotion in music as elements in a
piece of music bring emotions out of you, turns on stuff in
your brain that usually requires someone or a particular
type of event to happen. ive given up on finding any true,
real "meaning" in it all but instead resting on a self-made
meaning that fits it.

how the fuck is that transition/change not emotional?

subjective, cause i scared people last time when i
accidentally played beginning of Dial at full volume at a
party. while i feel all kinds of positive things when
listening to that track.

that might be the proof - music itself does not carry
emotions in it, emotions are the inpuT.

what exactly is input; is it placing your emotions in the
song itself or is it just the consideration that the song is
emotional, and then letting the song 'affect' you?
