I know he's probably more famous now for that Chappelle sketch than his music, but I just love the Rickster! There are loads of brill classics like "Give it to me Baby", "Cold Blooded" as well as the obvious "Superfreak". If you listen to his stuff, he was almost as innovative as Prince, in his own way.

I downloaded 30 seconds of give it to me baby, but he didn't say "YEEEAYAH!", "OOOKAAAAY!" or "WHAT!?" at all so I deleted it. Plus it wasn't that good. Superman, square dance or my dad's gone crazy by eminem are way better.

the only reason rick james' obituary meant anything to me was because of chappelle, now how's that for questionable fame, maybe dave killed him.

Excatly. I just really love their music. Completely stripped of any irony, and just funky as hell talkbox party music. Its worth checking out some of their less popular tunes. but i'm glad you already know them! more people should!
