I`m really at the end of my rope here. Not to be Monoid 2 or anything but with reason the past while has been, more insecure then I have ever been.
I was thinking, if I paid more attention to mainstream fashion and acted a bit more cocky I could passably fool myself into feeling more secure.
Is it because I am really not doing what I want to do? There are parts of my life that I feel are great. Then there are other things that my dis trust for some people undermine everything. I feel paranoid.
I know that`s a bad sign but I have absolute reason and justifications with tried and true evidence of particular actions I am afraid of happening.
Do you think that materialistic behavior and cocky attitudes build genuine self confidence? I`m happy with everything in my life but I still feel very insecure. Am I really missing something?
It`s all spawned from all the new wavers on myspace.com. Fake people have way more friends (and good looking girls) then I do : (

"Do you think that materialistic behavior and cocky attitudes
build genuine self confidence?"
perhaps it appears that way and it might make you think so, but then that is fake self confidence isn't it? people say best thing you can do for your self confidence is to find what you are good at and focus on that. im still in search for it :)

People who are popular on myspace are very unlikely to be as popular in 'real life' - if you are always true to yourself then yes you may have less friends or take longer to find a partner or whatever but those close to you are then more likely to really love you. And being true to yourself doesnt make you feel secure?

that's sort of what I was going to say... when cockiness makes people look secure, it's usually just a façade anyway so what the fuck.

first off - real people have insecurities and realize it
fake people hide them with things, stuff, pretty significant others, and showing off
i myself - i like certain expensive things, like SOME clothing ($100 for a pair of jeans, for instance, is fine by me) - YET i ride a bike, drink cheap alcohol mostly (i do do top shelf but not very often) and live a quiet, meager lifestyle - it all depends on what matters to you
we all feel insecure it sucks, but its how you deal with it that matters
ive dated pretty girls with NO self esteem (or piss poor) and not-so-pretty girls with healthy self esteem...let me tell you - the non-head turning ones are the ones i still talk to...because they're genuine reasonable people
between this and your student loans you must be beside yourself - sounds like me last year after i got dumped - but you know what? life makes more sense as it moves on...
just dont be a meat head...you can tell those guys are covering up for...shit look at dog_belch

euphon - lol
fungus - It's normal dude. Just have to get used to reminding yourself that those people are twats and they don't mean anything. All those 'friends' you see on myspace are just whores that accept whoever invites them, even if they don't chat. Its true for everyone, even me. I have 25 friends but maybe only talk to 10 of them and even fewer I chill with in real life. But I'm ok with that because they are all geniune peeps.

Fuck it. Feelings and being all emo about shit is for pussies. At the end of the day, we're all basically monkeys. If some girl is breaking your heart, fuck it. If you feel alienated, fuck it. If the world is a shallow and scary place, fuck it. It's the only way you're going to get on in life. One day you'll rotting in a wooden box. So party and try to get on with things and do what you want. If people are pissed off with you/look down on you, from your perspective you can just dismiss the fuckers as boring farts. I was hung up over a girl I thought I loved during my teenage years, and one day I just let it all go. It's liberating. Like Lou Barlow said: "It's a world of demands/it doesn't stop to understand."

i'd say cocky attitudes are more of a result of self confidence (but there is always the case of people just pretending to be that way to cover things up, as mentioned)
and i'd say materialistic behavior is more a way to try and make up for some other void in one's life.
perhaps looking more towards the root of problems you're having?

" And being true to yourself doesnt make you feel secure? "
It does when I am alone. The feeling of being pressured to socially intagrate myself, often leads to feelings of guilt because I do not feel the need to be accepted. Which in the end always makes a odd being out of my reputation, snow balling into a "Whats his problem" thing and in general only effects me much later on. Like while eating lunch or something, "Why the are people breaking me down I didn`t do anything".
It`s annoence and guilt all wrapped up .
"between this and your student loans you must be beside yourself"
Yeah. Thanks dude. There are about 4 other big things that I rather not talk about now, but you kind of helped bring in perspective that maybe I need to "get away".
Hair loss being the lesser of the few :((((
Your right I gotta not worry about it. Usually this doesn`t happen but I guess it's been one of those months!

why would you feel guilty about not feeling the need to be accepted?
who cares, fuck em
dont fret losing your hair, i shave my head, hair can go fuck itself
i get coined as an asshole CONSTANTLY - mainly because i dont care about things i dont care about (i know that sounds ridiculous but let me elaborate) - i used to put up with peoples shit and be empathetic etc (i still am, to those i love, which is few) - but, for instance, i meet a girl and she starts in with her normal girlish bullshit (name any one of 10,000 things) i just quite honestly stop caring and communicating...perhaps its that im too busy currently, or that deep down i really am just an asshole - but it makes my life a lot less complicated
for instance - i met a girl, we slept together (wink wink), oh who am i kidding we just fucked a few times - she gathered for some reason i wanted a relationship...which i didnt...but it was easier for her to say "hey i cant promise you commitment we need to end this (whatever "this" was, mainly just weekly sex romps)" so i said "okay" cool - went along my way, that night kissed another girl in a bar, etc etc
the clincher was i went to a party and she happened to be there and started this "do you hate me" / "why does he hate me" (to my friends) - it went on for a few hours and at the end of the night i just looked at her and said
"do you wanna go make out" she said "yeah but not in plain sight, let's go outside" so i said "forget it...wanna go somewhere and fuck?" she said "no" so i said "ok, then i gotta go home" and bounced
"sometimes you gotta put them hoes in their friggin place" - q-tip
