that comes out when you have the company open bar

6 - i think buying the ones you love things they want / that
make you think of them is nice

7 - yeah, they are pretty gay ill give you that
8 - im not fat...i can change though...if you promise to
love me
9 - natural selection
10 - if you had to be surrounded by family you would kill
yourself too !!! thank god im older and dont have to deal
with them all anymore

I just wanted to start a discussion on peoples real opinion
of Christmas. Without all this 'ooh Merry Christmas'
bollocks.

Personally, I enjoy Christmas.

offline euphonicfilter from illadelphia (United States) on 2005-12-14 06:50 [#01800231]

my real opinion is its awesome

i love the smell of pine trees
i love snow
i love all the food
i love that my family finally gets along (though the both
sides hate eachother)
i love giving / receiving gifts
i love eating christmas dinner and reminiscing about things
we did / enjoyed together
i love my dads choice in beer purchases
i love my moms pound cake
i love how my cats drink water out of the tree stand

this is my first christmas not going home, though, so it
will be weird...have to grow up sometime i suppose !

ok seriously now.

1. Ten million turkeys killed
heaps of turkeys and other animals are killed all year
round.
2. Pissed-up idiots driving and killing
never been part of my xmas
3. Huge rise in drink related deaths or injuries
pfft, again, doesnt relate to me
4. Chavs getting pregnant, hence September being the month
of most births every year
my birthdays in may
5. Office partys ruining careers
still at school! hey!
7. Christmas cards
whats wrong with christmas cards?
8. You fat bastard
: (
9. Household accident deaths peak on 25th
ive never had any household accident deaths on 25th..
10. Most suicides happen around the Christmas and New Year
period
never committed suicide or know anyone who has.

but..
6. Genuinely wasting a lot of money
you could soooo easily just make that the list and leave it
at that.
you spend all this money and then just get random presents
back (how many of them u actually want)

again tho, i like christmas

honestly doesn't feel like christmas. especially seeing,
for me, work gets even more hectic than normal this month.
saw people putting up christmas trees the other day which
really seemed strange until i remembered what the date is,
and that it's only like a week away from christmas.

hell, where the shit has this year gone. too bloody
quickly.

from what i can work out (ignoring the media, listening to
those i know up in sydney), it started off as a simple,
non-violent, non-racist protest against particular lebanese
gangs who are causing problems. extremists got involved,
and it's turned to shit; as somebody else put it, it's
"idiots vs idiots".

i'm pretty disgusted by the whole thing, really.

if you're referring to me - bullshit, i'm perfect in every
way, baby!

if you mean australia - yeah, we're a reasonably peaceful
country but there's certainly a lot of fuckwits out there,
no different than any other country. the media is blowing
it completely out of proportion though.

In England there is a perception that Australains think they
are perfect, and that thier nation is perfect. The media
here are evil fucks, and there is a sense of "They fucked
up! Ha ha!" going around the country.

i guess australia strives to uphold the image of a
multicultural success story. around my town it does appear
to be the case. we are though a bit more laidback than the
eastern states :) but i could expect the british papers to
latch on these incidents as they already boldly announce the
failiure of multiculturalism at home.

indeed; same here, and even in sydney. it's a very small
section of society that are intolerant of it; and it appears
they've taken liberty of the situation and are causing
havok. racism in this situation is purely a scapegoat; the
problems appear to be deeper rooted, and (at this point)
appears confined to one part of sydney.

that said, the opinions i form on this stuff are loosely
based at most; almost all information is biased, either from
those witnessing the events or the media, neither who grok
the full picture, who then amplify and distort perception of
the rationale through peers.

on the positive side, maybe this will mean individuals who
have been causing problems for a while now will be jailed
for a very, very long time.

offline pigster from melbs on 2005-12-14 07:36 [#01800280]

australia is still very multicultural, just the dickheads
and such are like. devolving or something.
the first riot/right thing (or i think it was the first) was
just heaps of 'true australians' running around beating up
any lebanese (was it only lebanese?) people they could find.
fucken poor effort.

just read this over here
FOUR churches in Sydney's southwest have been attacked in 24
hours as the city's riots spread from race to religion.

oh yeah, and sorry to all those who wanted to talk about how
shit christmas is : )

actually, there's multicultural tolerance/acceptance issues
everywhere, i think, but the real problems and those who
don't believe in the concept are such a minor issue that it
hardly matters - at least, at this point in time. the
current situation may change that, but i hope not/don't
think it will.

killing turkeys is awesome, even though we don't eat them at
christmas. i'd kill turkeys any day.

christmas is good stuff. presents and good food and lulling
yourself to sleep with some bad tv.

the police need to fucking smackdown hard on these morons.
idiots shit me even more when they can get away with this
crap. i've heard others say there's efficiency issues with
the police force; this seems to definitely indicate that
(but, again, these are armchair opinions - i'm probably
wrong).

also, if it's of any interest (and to my best knowledge,
this is legal), a live sydney police scanner stream:

^ uh, efficiency issues with the police force specifically
in sydney, i mean. supposedly this was a big part of the
original, intended non-violent rally (gangs causing
problems, police doing merry sweet f-all about it).

Coming down at 7.00pm for cold turkey sandwiches and a
