since there are many people here from different countries besides america i want to start talking about bicycles (most americans prefer monstrous auto's to bikes for some reason)
who here rides a bike? - i do everyday - i used to own three but have sold two and am down to one
i used to have:
2004 Trek 1000 21 speed mid 90's peugeot i built from scratch & (my current baby) 2005 bianchi pista fixed gear
anyone?

I was thinking about getting a bmx/single gear for commuting (too far to walk in a rush/the rain, but not really far enough to warrant the car), but as I've just moved back to Wales (a lot hillier than england), a mountain bike is probably what I'll go for.
I used to use my brother's one a fair bit, but as he has left home, I no longer have the use of it. It was a half decent front suspension one and I'm looking for something similar.

ceri jc - dont rule out road bikes - they are faster than mountain bikes and can be cheaper depending on your priorities

Go for the middle ground and buy a cross bike. Not very good if you happen to croos a lot kerbs, but deffinately not as bad as road ones and much better suited for asphalt than mountain-bikes.

When my mate said to me "hey, i can get you a "new" *wink wink* bike for next to nothing i nearly killed him.
I may as well just meet the seller and give him 50 quid and a pat on the back and let him keep the bike. duh

Being 14 stone, racers/road bikes tend not like me bouncing them off kerbs etc.
Now I'm back in Wales, the bike would be purely for recreation and I mainly downhill/offroad through woodland, so I can't imagine a racer standing up to the beating I'd give it :)

In LA, riding a bike can get you killed, so bike riding is strictly recreational for most people. However, since my car decided to take a shit, I've been riding around town here and there where taking the bus is impractical.
I actually cant remember what brand of bike I have, possibly a Diamondback.
