indeed. i like a few songs quite a bit! she's better than 99% of female artists outhere that are in most cases way overhyped.

Listening to "Nocturn" right now. One of the best pieces here. The album is very even. Possibly a grower.

sorry, i wanted to put 'j/k' in the end but i thought it was obvious i was joking. no, ofcourse not, i don't really care whether it's man or a woman as long as it's good music. in my initial post in this thread i was thinking of artists like tori amos & co.

OK it pains me to say this but on my first few listens it hasn't left me with anything memorable. The clincher was that when the album finnished Vespertine came on, it just happened to be the next CD in my 5CD tray thing. When it came on I compleatly forgot all of Ariel. Perhaps it is a grower, Red Shoes was and I still listen to Lilly. I will give it a chance but on the first few listens I have yet to find a 'hook'. On the whole I am a little dissapointed.

I will hear the new record but I prefer to think of Katie as part of the era that bringed Prince, Sinéad O'Connor, and so on. The late 1980s.

there's something.. uncomfortable about it. yeah, yeah, you really love your son, you're a mother. that's lovely, but also kind of your thing.
"a coral room" is really nice, the song she wrote about the death of her mother, Hannah.
something like "Joanni" is classic Kate Bush to me.
I really like the packaging for this set - the packaging on her last few releases has been a bit stingy, not done very well, and this looks great, really fits the music.
I really enjoy seeing this album getting good reviews. I just think Kate Bush is one of the most original people in pop music, she really does her own thing.
and when you read her interviews she seems like a really funny person, not at all stuffy (as you might expect).
I'm especially pleased to see pitchforkmedia giving it a 6.4. :)

It's great to hear her voice again. After first listen i have no complaints. That woman has style.
Favourite track so far : that "oldschool"/[medieval?] dance, "Bertie", track 3. Cause she was able to surprise me with that change in moods after track 2.

After much reviewing-relistening I would have to give this album a big thumbs down.
Plenty of stinkers Not one stand out track
I really like Kate Bush's stuff, Hounds of Love is a classic, The Kick Inside is stunning but this one is super crappy, wishy washy dirty shirty!

To put it in perspective. The duet she did with Peter Gabriel is better than the entire album, in fact the track Lilly from The Red Shoes is better.

then I have to say I disagree with you. although I like the duet, it isn't that great, what with Peter Gabriel being in it.
and please.. the track "Lily" is dross, as is most of "the red shoes". "aerial" blows "the red shoes" clean out of the water, with ease, I might add.
