Awful news storry

A MAN has been arrested by cops probing the use of live
dogs as shark bait, it was revealed last night.

It comes a day after The Sun published horrific photos of a
pup with a fishing hook through its snout.

Cops on French-controlled Reunion Island say a man will
appear in court tomorrow. And last night the French Embassy
vowed to target more rogue fishermen.

It said: “Such acts are illegal and intolerable.”

Animal welfare group Sea Shepherd will pay £680 to any cop
who catches a fisherman baiting a dog.

Thousands contacted the RSPCA and The Sun after reading our
story.

In one case, a six-month-old labrador puppy had its paws
bound with wire and was used for bait.

It made me sick seeing this.

that is fucking awful. It really makes me angry when people
don't treat animals with respect. Personally I've never been
one for fishing, anyway, as I don't see the fun in putting a
hook in a fish's mouth for sport. This is just new levels of
fucked up, though.

I'd like to see how those fisherman like having coat hangers
rammed through their flesh and being tossed to sea... I
wonder if they'd think live bait was such a cool idea then.

Yeah. Using a dog with fucking hooks in its mouth? How could
you actually do that to an animal?

What gets me is that it's a dog. As equally vile as things
that happen in prrocessing plants is, forr me and lots of
people when it's being done to an animal that you have as a
pet, it hits much harrderr.

No. Its a double standard, yes, but cowmeats are more
justified than this. Putting a hook in a dogs mouth to catch
an animal on the endangered species list. As much as I don't
want to see dogs being used as bait, there has to be a more
humaine way. You have to kill a cow and process it quickly,
because otherwise the natural decompositional process will
kick in and make the meat unpallatable... but as far as I
know, a shark will still eat animal meat if it is freshly
dead. As long as it can still feel an electrical current in
it.

Such a different kind of mind. People thinking in a way to
be reasonably functional human beings, but being capable of
killing and harming things to that degree. I can't really
understand that kind of brain. I'm usually good at putting
myself in other peoples shoes, but some shoes are dangerous.
Better left unexplored.

As much as this story breaks my heart, you think it is real?
The sun ain`t to reliable. Could be a scam to get more hits

that's a golden retriever, not a stray dog. it looks like
he's wearing a collar! is that hook supposed to stay in
that dog's mouth as it's supposedly thrown overboard to
serve as bait? who would waste the time and energy stealing
pets to use them as bait? why not use man's best chum,
instead of man's best friend? uh oh, bullshit detector
overload! i won't say that stray dogs have never been used
as bait, and i volunteer at the humane society, so i'm
familiar with all sorts of abuse, but this sounds like it's
about 90% fabrication.

I don't doubt things like this go on, but that picture looks
a bit fishy (haha - sorry) to me. Surely there'd be
some sort of wound where the fish hook was stuck through his
face, this looks more like he's had an elaborate piercing.
It's not Trent Reznor's dog, is it?

umm no one said that children dying of starvation is
acceptable. i don't really understand why thinking that an
incident like this would be horrible if it was true implies
that to you.

you are aware that dogs are raised as food and brutally
slaughtered in some countries?

more importantly, although there may be a grain of truth to
this story, it's extremely unlikely that this photo
represents a dog about to be used as bait.

it's a golden retriever, not a mongrel.
the dog's wearing a collar.
the dog is healthy, obviously a pet.
stealing pets to use as shark bait is likely not practical.
that hook would not hold given the dog's weight if thrown
overboard.
the person holding the dog has clean hands and is well
manicured.
the photo looks like it was probably taken at a veterinary
clinic.
there is no blood or any indication that the hook was
forcibly pushed through skin.

as far as animal rights issues diverting funds from
"humanitarian" issues, i think we have a responsibility to
treat domesticated animals with respect and decency, the
same responsibility we owe to each other.

if true, this is a human being doing something pretty
revolting to an animal that can't fight back, i don't really
see how he should go without being caught and punished in
the name of starving children...in my eyes the two causes
are really unrelated. i don't think they are competing for
donations or something.
