-- -- Boards of Canada :: The Campfire Headphase (Warp, CD/2LP)
"...Less like chemists in a lab than like carpenters in a workshop, or gardeners living amongst what they have designed, grown, and cultivated, this album showcases Marcus and Michael at their best, creating a soundtrack to life in the countryside the likes of which has not been heard before..." -- --

HA HA!! these are the kind of reviews pitchforkmedia reviewers can point at and laugh.

95% of reviews ive read in my life are either absolutely shite, or they dis whatever band it is, for a band to have a crappy review in a magazine is depressing (top 40 aside)

Early in the listening process, I formulated a sort of vision of the duo at work, in which I saw them through an early morning haze making sounds via methods that can't quite be articulated, a kind of stony process requiring more intuition than knowledge, where chords are correctly placed but aren't quite chords, and the importance of formal training is elided by sheer talent and virtuosity.
Did they take a degree in sounding like a tosser or does it come naturally?

So they didn't listen to it on 180g vinyl in a sound proof chamber? How dare they review an mp3????? THEY'VE HEARD NOTHING!!!!!

My review: A step in the wrong direction for sure. The devil is no longer in the details in BOC's music. I was hoping for a more experimental album, but BOC makes their contribution to the genre "Cappuchino Chill Out". Even my ganny can play this record as background music, without knowing it. Anyway. Some nice melodies makes this album fairly good, but wtf, this IS Boards of Canada, and I expected more.
6.7 on the Pitchfork scale.
