I know many now drinking threads have been done, but not
with out the rating twist. It's not much of a twist, I
apologize. Feel free to add booze or mixed drinks as well. I
just thought the 'Beers' part flowed nicely.

Right now: Yuengling Black & Tan - 3.5 / 5

I've been trying different six packs of mainly imported
beers since my 21st birthday a month ago and today I went
domestic. Can't say I've had a black & tan by any company,
but it doesn't seem to change things. Kind of just tastes
like yuengling to me.

I'll also throw in a rating for the best beer I've had in my
little beer testing month...

Sam Adam's Cherry Wheat - 5/5

nice, kind of thick flavored beer. delicious.

Boulevard Wheat, straight from my neck of the woods.

Maybe I'm biaist (I'm currently drunk and can't remember how
to spell,) because the brewery is in my backyard, but it's
delicious, and powerful!!!

Schlitz - 2/5
Pabst Blue Ribbon - 2.5/3
Lone Star Light - 0.5/5
Budweiser - 2.5/5
Pearl Light - 1/5
Schaefer Light - 1/5

See what being broke degrades one to! shameful

long trail double bag - 5/5
a strong ale with alot of the hop, which im not normally a
fan of, but i adore this beer. too bad i cant find it on the
left coast [of the us]. and as a lovely kicker it is 7.2%
alcohol.

dos equis amber - 3/5
a good lighter, en masse drinkable beer. has a very
versatile taste, and goes well with almost anything. still
doent trump my hometown favorite of miller high life tho.

guiness draught bottles - 4/5
its guiness, the alcoholic version of chocolate milk. but
the 'drink it straight from the bottle' widget doesn't do it
justice. black and tans are delicious as well.

Yes Pabst is defintely , THA SHIT.

It tastes great, gets you loaded, and plus you will have
some money left over from your ten dollar bill for some
blunt wraps!

i've never thought pabst tasted particularly great, but it
is cheap which is nice.

As an aside, I have a pabst blue ribbon neon clock. It has
been sitting in my closet since I moved. I need to hang that
shit.

offline D-Steak from Kansas City, Mo. (United States) on 2005-10-03 00:47 [#01739737]
Points: 1376 Status: Regular

Yeah you are right. Pabst is an aquired taste, but once you
get it, damn, life is good. :D

Hang that clock immediately.

I have my own clock aside. I ordered an aphex twin clock
from ebay and got hosed on the deal. I was out 20 bucks,
which sucked, but the shittiest part was getting teased into
thinking I'd finally have a cool looking clock.

Pabst truly is the beer world's best kept secret. Like you
said, once you start acquiring that taste then you're golden
because it's cheap as hell and gets the job done.

Plus, it's got some cred from all the cool movies it's been
referenced in.

hey "curbcreeper"

i live in philadelphia - let me make you hip to something -
yuengling (or as they call it here "lager") is gross rice
made beer - their "black and tan" is bullshit - its a mix of
porter and yuengling original - a black and tan is a stout
and a porter / strong ale, their version is shit - you also
need to mix one right before you drink it, if it settles too
long the point is lost

sam adams cherry wheat is a good beer but there are many
better fruit beers around - lambic peach is amazing, magic
hat #9 is awesome, and any maine blueberry beer is tastey
(avoid pumpkin beers though, they're gross)

the best beer in the world is La Fin Du Monde brewed in
canada - Dogfish head is far and away the best american
brewery (their 90 & 120 minute IPA's are the BEST) - any new
england micro is likely to have at least one great beer -
the west coast is full of great beers too many to mention -
try barley wine's some time, they range from 10-13% alch. -
they will kick you in the face and you will enjoy it

at least, i know i do

long trail is the best slept on new england beer - pabst has
become a hipster fuck beer (even though i still like to
think its ok since i liked it before it was cool) - guinness
draft has a lower alch. percentage than keystone light, bud,
pabst, and coors light - guinness extra stout (8%) is where
its at - it actually tastes like something

m-x high gravity lager - taste 0/5, alchohol content 5/5
heiniken - 2/5, skunky raisin beer
red stripe - 2/5, fishy aftertaste
evil eye high gravity lager - taste -5/5, tastes of elmers
glue

that's interesting about the yuengling

i've had a magic hat before and i did enjoy, but i don't
remember if it was some special brew. winter, summer,
whatever etc.

that maine blueberry beer sounds very good. any specific
brand you recommend? and have you seen it in the philly
area?

oddly enough in philly they only stock in stores and sell in
bars what i consider to be the WORST maine beer of all -
allagash - i went to the maine brew fest two years in a row
and allagash was the worst beer there - the tripel was so
bad it took two stout samples to get the taste outta my
mouth

maine beers worth noting

shipyard - portland, ME
old thumper - awesome british style ale, with alch. force,
and taste
export ale - wicked good basic ale

sea dog - used to be camden, now brewed by shipyard,
portland
hazelnut porter - best porter on the planet
blueberry ale - cleanest and smoothest ive ever had

bar harbor - bar harbor, ME
summer ale - strong and refreshing, way summer beer should
be
blueberry ale - very mild blueberry aftertaste, wicked
smooth, wicked refreshing

all other good maine beers are pretty hard to come by as
they are small times (minus gritty's, geary's, and a few
other large breweries)

i was in brigantine this summer at a friends place and found
bar harbor blueberry at a liqour store - i dont know where
in brigantine we were but it was a sizable shop on the
corner of a main street next to some surf shop place (hope
that helps!)

enough because it's the only liquor store in town, aside
from a bar with package goods.

thanks for all the recommendations, i will definitely pick
up bar harbor on my next outing.

that's some really odd chancing that you happened to be in

I'm no connoisseur of beers, but I usually like to try
something new, so I probably rate Hoegaarden, also Stella

well, too.

tonight i am drinking 'jw dundee's original honey brown
flavored lager'

3.5 / 5

i've been fond of flavored stuff lately, but honey doesn't
appear to be my thing. it's a domestic lager from a brewery
in rochester, ny. i used to go up there to visit my 'aunt'
and her family. it was really just one of my mom's friends,
but we called her aunt.

oh and magic hat #9 i'd give a 4 / 5 i guess. i can't say i
remember what an apricot tastes like, but it's good in this
beer.

We have some great microbreweries here. A place called
Appalachian Brewing Co. makes an ale called Jolly Scott
which is excellent. Also a company called Troegs is local
and they have a some good beers that tend to be on the
hoppier side if you like that.

Someone mentioned about Yuengling Black & Tan, which is good
but I especially like their Porter (B&T is just their porter
and premium mixed).

Someone also mentioned about JW Dundee's Honey Brown. That
is not the best honey beer although it is one of the more
popular ones. Pete's Wicked Honey Wheat is good and Sam
Adams has a honey porter which I'm not sure if I had it but
I bet it is good.
