I'd just like to state the fact that black metal is perhaps
one of the few genres that are even more pretentious and
elitist than "idm" :)

i wouldn't say the music itself is, but i also can't
understand a word of it. at least it's nowhere near as
pretentious as prog rock. the production values are often
lo-fi, this third track here has out of tune guitars...
it's great. it's not like i can hear the ridiculous
costumes and makeup they're probably wearing...

Hehe yea, it's the actual "scene" that is pretentious and
elitist of course.

well, thanks a lot for the mix, impakt. i enjoyed listening
very much. i think you've finally turned me onto the black
metal stuff. i dig it. the songs kind of got a little bit
same-y towards the middle, but i think it will grow on me.
cool! :D

But i actually will check this out and after listening to it
i will make the "americans that drink whiskey and steal

heh, that's about it really. I've got one "metal" cd, and
that is by Cryptopsy. Talk to Impakt instead, he'll teach
ya! ;)

but yeah, it's a hell of an album. Brutal and very fast.

I enjoyed it for about half an hour, I wish the bass was
higher in the mix.

The problem is that hardly any blackmetal bands put the bass
forward in the mix and that they all record with old 8tracks
etc.

I'm gonna listen, so it had better be good. I actually have
no idea if I'll like this as the only band included that
I've heard anything from is Ulver, and well... they can't
ever stick with one sound (and I haven't heard the track you
included). Umm... I do like death metal... and Cryptopsy...
and the sponsored links for this thread are to sites selling
teapots?... Why?

Do any of them have more bass or higher production? If so
who and give me some info. I find that I am really turned
off with crappy production but I appreciate the "feel" all
the same.

Hmm, some of the newer albums by darkthrone have better
production, same with Judas Iscariot and immortal(but I hate
new immortal)

Exactly :) I've also heard Kveldssanger, but I know that
even that album is different than their old black metal
music, considering there isn't any... black... metal...
anywhere on it...

Listened to about 20 minutes worth and I'm of the same
opinion as 010101 - enjoyed the music, but the production
kinda bugged me too; it's actually one reason I haven't yet
listened to a great deal of black metal. I've been listening
to more and more lately, but usually find myself drawn to
the better produced albums. I'm probably missing out on some
of the better stuff because of it, but I can't help it!

Well, at the risk of suggesting bad albums (I don't listen
to enough to know better), two albums that I can think of
off hand that had good production were Emperor's last album,
Promethius: The Discipline... and Dimmu Borgir's Puritanical
Euphoric Misanthropia (which has the best production I've
heard on a black..ish metal album, but they kinda stray from
black metal).

Finally, what's with the teapot links again?!

the production on puritanical is really good. bought it on
the strength of that alone. and it's good for a laugh and a
beer.

genre.

Yes, I like it too. I strongly dislike dimmu and
