The Thief Luke Vibert

I love the interview with Luke about all of the unreleased
tracks he has of Aphex and Squarepusher but the best part
was when he said Tom played him a track which he loved but
wouldn't let him have a copy, so Luke waited until Tom left
the room and made a copy without him knowing then played it
at a night when Tom was present only for Tom to say "I don't
remember giving you that" to which Luke pleaded innocence.

These are the lives of electronic music making people.

Please regale me with other stories of this nature involving
your favourite artists except Snores.

The man snares at night. I can't sleep because of it.

Yeah I have heard he is a bit of a goer, but I am sure there
would be more appropriate places and topics for that sort of
thing to be discussed.

AE stole all of my material, infact Granz Graf is all my
stuff.

I met him (Vibert) once and he was really nice, very
friendly, we had a little chat, I knew someone he knew so we
had a little connection to talk about, however vague, and he
shook my hand in parting. He didn't try to steal any of my
tunes off of me though, which I took quite badly.

Oh just imagine, an acid remix with a few choice samples,
lovingly produced by LV... I bet even I would be moved to
say "lush".

Email him and ask him. In fact you should do one shit hot
track, then get all the IDM people on Warp to do a remix and
have Warp release it. Not only would it the music be
excellent but conceptually the whole Grinning Ape identity
is a winner.

I've got an idea to sell the Grinning Ape brand as a form of
musical franchise, maybe a bit like the Universal Indicators
but sexier, or maybe Gescom if I understood what that was,
where artists that either wish to remain anonymous, or need
an outlet to release music that doesn't fit in with their
back catalogue, can do so under the name... Grinning Ape.

If that isn't the future then I don't know what is.

will there be some form of quality control involved or will
"grinning ape" just become a synonym of Zebox and such
sites?

Grinning Ape will flourish by virtue of it utilising a very
exacting criteria, namely, if I think it's "shit" or "not
shit". There's no middle ground, no "8 albums down the line
he could really come into his own a la Snares", it'll be
shit... or not shit.

Grinning Apre will also flourish by destroying my topics.

Yeah, sorry, I did think that after my laast post in it.

Mind you, the thread title could be a bit more descriptive,
"Amusing IDM annecdotes", "Electronic shenanigans you've
heard about" etc, it's little wonder it's been derailed
quite so easily.

I don't really want to hear any stories. I was just
attention seeking :(

surely you can do better than this - look at crocomire and
monoid.

observe.

learn, quickly get bored.

move on.

I wasn't really attention seeking. Don't make me stab you

Genuine LOL at that.

Dog Belch: Keep on the case with Grinning Ape, it's only a
matter of time before an A&R man worth his salt hears it and
does the decent thing.
