Westwood began on pirate radio doing hip hop in the early 80's and has been championing rap ever since. He has been a part of the hiphop scene for longer than most of you fools have been alive. He has got a lot of US artists their UK breaks. It's a pity that because he is white you allow your racist views to run riot. PmR UK is shit though. |

It's nothing to do with him being white. I can't stand his kind of macho posturing - whatever the skin colour. I understand that he championned a lot of UK hiphop in his early days, but he's grown lazy with success. And he's probably the worst interviewer I've ever heard. All he does is talk about himself and what he's achieved - when really he ought to be asking far more talented people about their music. There's nothing wrong with being humble about your acheivements. John Peel was - and he championned hip hop too. In fact, he was in a position to bring it to the attention of the masses way before Westwood was. Don't even bother trying to play the race card - because it doesn't apply here - not for me anyway. Westwood is the son of a CofE Vicar. So yes, he may have grown up in a rougher part of the city - a lot of people have. But it's not to do with how he speaks, or the fact that he's a white DJ playing Rap and Hip Hop... it's what comes out of his mouth. The arrogant, clichéd tripe that sounds just as stupid, whether you're white, black - or any other race you care to mention. I love the variety of accents, dialects and spoken vernacular's in English. I think it's fascinating and very often beautiful - but I know an idiot when I hear one. |

He has assimilated a lot of the US hiphop style into what he says and does, and I agree sometimes it makes him look a bit foolish but at the end of the day he has been in hiphop since the beginning and is quite well respected outside of the I'll go onto an internet message board and bad mouth the easy white target circles. He acts the way many in hip hop act, he just stands out and gets targeted because of the colour of his skin...which despite your protestations about it having nothing to do with the fact he is white is exactly the reason. |

I don't have the slightest problem with him being a vicars son either. I don't really think it makes him less credible. Music is not about style or fashion (incidentally something that the kind of hip hop championned by Westwood these days ignores more than almost any other genre). As I said before. What I have a problem with is his self-indulgent bleating about how great he is. His appalling interview technique. And the clichéd 'bad boy' hip hop ramblings that he comes out with. I happened to see an ad with a voiceover by Westwood. It struck me how stupid he sounds sometimes. I posted a message about it on a whim. I didn't expect his fucking fan club to start accusing me of being a racist. Christ almighty. |

Also hiphop is about the culture which includes style and fashion, rap is just a component of hiphop. The self indulgent bleating is no worse than most other commercially prominent people in hiphop. He was singled out because he was the white son of a vicar, simple as that. I'm not his fan club I just don't like racists. |

All I meant was - I thought his father would have been a better role model. Instead he's turned out like he has. It's pointless discussing this with you because whatever I say you're just going to call me a racist. Which I'm not. I know why I said what I said, and I stand by it. You clearly aren't prepared to listen to anyone's opinion but your own, but if you actually knew anything about me, my beliefs, and the company I keep - instead of basing your opinion of me on a flippant remark I made in this thread, getting on your soap-box and proclaiming anyone who doesn't like what they see/hear of Westwood as a racist, you'll know that there's not a racist bone in my body. |
