Godspeed you black emporer is a group of about 9 musicians from Montreal. Describing their sound is kinda difficult. They have some bass players a few bowed instruments, someone manipulating tape, guitarists, and precussion. |

They are amazing, in my top 3. If you like them also check out Silver Mt Zion (godspeed side project comprising lesss people, 5 or somehting) and also check out Set Fire to flames, same vein and extremely good. |

lysflath is brilliant. it's their latest release (2000). the first disc sounds a lot like their old stuff but the second seems like a newer sound for the band to me. i recommend getting a hold of their other releases like slow riot for canada ep and f#a# (infinity). they are both equally great. f#a# is my favourite. flea: godspeed you black emporer! i suggest you get down to crawlspace records on k'rd. they have the releases and reasonably cheap for imports. give them a listen. you'll be left speechless. it's music to get lost into. |

those bastards at tower records ripped me off!!! I bought a brand new copy of lift yr skinny wrists in the wrap and everything and it only came with the second disc. what kind of bullshit is that? eh, oh well. I just downloaded the first disc off morpheus and burned it to a cd >:D slow riot for new zero kanada is my favorite. "you think you're god because you can send someone up the river for 20 yrs. well you're not!!!" heehee, that old man they sample is funny. |

the 'silver mt. zion' side project albums are incredible, almost as good as godspeed! and certainly more diverse. set fire to flames is also worth listening to. more ambient (on natural instruments, no synths or computers) than usual. prog rock meets musique concrete. |

how many sliver mount zion cds do they have out? i bought two of them in the past week...very nice stuff... im going to get skinny fists and set fire to flames soon too i think.. has anyone heard their other projects? i was at a store yesterday and they had a whole bunch of other cds in the gybe section.. i forget the other names though...there were like 2 or 3 others |

there are only 2 silver mt zion albums out. The otehr side projects include set fire to flames and one speed bike. The best are definitely sliver mt ziona dn godspeed. Though set fire toflames ios also awesome. one speed bike is the drummers side project, its not on par with the others. There are a bunch of projects that have some random members. Check out the shalabi effect if youre interested as well. Sam Shalabi is in silver mt zion. |

i found the shalalabi effect album to be boring, not nearly on par with the set fire to flames album which was a similar style of music. |

it's good to see you are all on about gsybe! it's been a short 4 years, but rather amazing. they are one of my favourite bands, and one of the few that are able to capture such passion in sound. when i saw them lsat summer they had 13 musicians on stage at once! they played slow riot.. for their encore! there roster is always changing, but my friends friend is the celloist for them, and apparently the little band of squatters form kanada are quite big in the europe! their new album was being produced with steve albini, but efrim disliked what steve was doing, so they are reworking it. it should be quite grand! before tohm got into bjork adn richard, gysbe! was his favourite band, and you can totally hear it on the bends adn especially okay computre. there is even a track on kid a which is a direct take from a gysbe! song. but that is what radiohead is known for to the underground enthusiasts:thieves. i think it's partially good that they do this though>gets more people listening to the better musik. |

what? the bends and ok computer came out before f#a#infinity. i know gybe! have been around since around the bends but i doubt thom knew about them till they were signed. i think they were infuential on kid a, and on the writing of the song "how to disappear completely" which they debuted in 1998 (though, again, i don't agree that it's a direct take from any gybe! song). the band have always been into bjork and misc. artists on warp. anyway thanks for the news on the albini sessions, i was wondering if they were going to keep those. they're so fucking picky, i don't know why they even hired albini if they don't like his style. |

other related bands (apart from mt. zion and sftf) are on the constellation label: fly pan am share a guitarist (roger) with godspeed. their style is more repetetive and has jazz influences. i have the first album, and that's really good, specially the first track. do make say think are another post rock band. have onlt heard a couple of tracks, but they were good. they share no members w/ godspeed, but they played adjacent sets at all tomorrows parties. im really looking forward to the new godspeed album (if it ever comes out). i heard at least two of the three tracks when i saw them live (which was fucking awesome). "tazer floyd" has an immense chord sequence. it just builds and builds. and there's "motherfucker = redeemer" and another track where the title is a date. i really love "lift yr. skinny fists", especially the first half of disc 1. also, kaimo is right to recommend slow riot! moya is great too. |

i found out about godspeed around their first release of 98. at the same time an article came out about ok computer within tohm stated how much gsybe was an influence on the last two album's moreso on the latest and how they are his favourite band. i got into radiohead and gsybe at the same time, and thought it was pretty kewl that tohm had expressed that and openly admittd to their influence. and what do you mean you can't hear it? listen to how karma police ends? gsybe may have come out on CD in 98, but they have been around on vinyl before that and have been touring extensively for about 7 or 8 years i think. They have been pretty big in europe for quite some time, before i started into them that's for sure, and that has been 4 yrs. i'm just re-telling what i have read, tis all. and the song on kid a is the instrumental i think. but i should double check, so don't quote me on this yet. L8ah! |

. i don't think it has anything to do with gybe! - i mean, it's just distortion and i don't think it sounds anything remotely like gybe!. also i don't think treefingers sounds anything like gybe! either, sorry! i'm not trying to dis you or anything, i just don't agree. yea, they were a band long before '98 and they put out a very limited version of f#a#infinity in 1997 on constellation records (vinyl only). years before they released a debut album that was pressed on only 33 tapes! |

This topic inspired me to pick up Lift Your Skinny Fists... and listen after almost a year of not listening to Godspeed. I forgot how amazing they are, especially on disc 2 of that album. |

Oh yeah, and if you're referencing How To Disappear, that was a rumor started years ago to convince people that Godspeed and Radiohead would work together on what became Kid A. The finished song sounds nothing like Godspeed though. |
